The team has only gotten worse since he got there and his numbers are down. He’s a slight negative on defense. He’s owed $170 million. They gave up 4 or 5 FRPs and 5 (pretty good) players. I can’t think of a worse trade. The Nets trading their pick to us for Gerald Wallace was bad. The Nets trading for KG/Pierce/Terry wasn’t terrible because at least they won a playoff series. As Stren would say, it’s December, but if Minnesota doesn’t make the playoffs, this was the worst trade ever.
Putting KAT and Gobert in the same lineup looked incredibly stupid and it has proven to be incredibly stupid. Like Nurk both of them have trouble at this point in their careers being mobile enough to provide the requisite defense on the perimeter and protect the paint. Thankfully Nurk is only one of our players and he isn't close to our highest paid. These are the Wolves two highest paid players and that is going to prove very problematic going forward, especially in 2025-26 when if Gobert opts in they will have 100M committed to these two guys for that singular season. Not only did they make a really poor personnel decision but they doubled down on that by giving up a ton of draft assets to go with it (2023, '25, '27 and '29 FRPs and a 2026 first round pick swap). This was a real head scratcher that looks like it's become a true disaster. I mean look at the details of this deal: https://www.nba.com/timberwolves/ne...ves-acquire-center-rudy-gobert-from-utah-jazz What in the actual fuck?!?
Timberwolves are vastly underperforming. Losing games that they should theoretically win. That is why this trade looks so bad, but IF they put things together in the next 12 months it will look much better. IF IDK that it’s the worst trade ever. I think Gerald Wallace trade is worse.
I still think the draft day deal that landed Dallas Dirk Nowitzki for Brian Williams. HOFer for draft bust.
It's not even the worst trade a Minnesota team has ever made. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hersc...deal on October 12,18 players and draft picks.
Robert Traylor, not Brian Williams. btw, these trades are up there with the lopsided ones. Magic Johnson August 5, 1976: Traded by the New Orleans Jazz (as a future 1979 1st round draft pick) with a 1977 1st round draft pick (Kenny Carr was later selected), a 1978 1st round draft pick (Freeman Williams was later selected) and a 1980 2nd round draft pick (Sam Worthen was later selected) to the Los Angeles Lakers for a 1977 2nd round draft pick (Essie Hollis was later selected) and a 1978 1st round draft pick (Jack Givens was later selected). This exchange was arranged as compensation for Utah signing veteran free agent Gail Goodrich on July 19, 1976. Mychal Thompson: June 8, 1978: Traded by the Indiana Pacers (as a future 1978 1st round draft pick) to the Portland Trail Blazers for Johnny Davis and a 1978 1st round draft pick (Rick Robey was later selected) (Robey was traded to Portland for Moses Malone btw). Here's another odd trade too. https://www.si.com/nba/2020/02/05/most-bizarre-nba-trade-in-history Blazers traded Jon Spoelstra to the Pacers for Don Buse. January 7, 1983: Traded by the Indiana Pacers to the Portland Trail Blazers for cash. Indiana also received the consultation services of Portland vice president Jon Spoelstra.
Have the Twolves made worse trades? How about the Martell Webster trade which got us Blazer GOATer Luke Babbitt AKA The Chalupacabra.
Found this article Ray Allen to Milwaukee Source: https://dunkingwithwolves.com/2019/...s-3-worst-trades-in-timberwolves-history/amp/
I think Vanderbilt and a 1st (Kessler) would have been sufficient for Minnesota to give up considering they took on Gobert's contract. The filler might have been needed to complete the deal, but the extra 4 first-round picks were crazy.
Minnesota actually has had some of their best games when neither Towns or Gobert play. Naz Reid is really a good player when he gets the minutes to show it and they don't have to worry about involving him in the offense. I think both Russell and Edwards play best when they can just be themselves and not worry about Towns. I think they need to trade Towns. If they could somehow get Siakam, maybe involving a third team, depending on what Toronto wants to do in the future, which I think Toronto doesn't even know yet....
Saw Malones last pre season game w/blazers. Then what I view as one of the worse, if not the worse deals the team ever made, even more so than Jermaine.
