Heard it a few minutes ago from the Hawks announcers. Watching the Hawks-Grizzlies before the Bulls game begins. Having his shooting arm elbow operated on. Imagine the despair as bulls fans had we signed both Boozer and Johnson. One comes back, the other on Injured list!
I wonder how the Hawks feel about that 100 million contract now. He wasn't exactly tearing it up before this injury either. A quick thought experiment: What's the most you would have paid for Joe Johnson? I would say something like 4 years, 60 million. I doubt that number is too far from the median wager. So why on Earth did Atlanta pay twice that much?
The NBA season is grueling. You really have to assume everyone is going to go down at some point. Which brings us back to the bizarre decision by management not to carry a distributing point guard.
Gotta love your consistency. Because BG averaging 13.1 pts/g now is totally worth $11 mil/year, right? That would have been a perfectly sound decision right?
Detroit is showing loyalty to Richard Hamilton, but like I said, it's not something we're used to here. Hamilton is averaging 13.1 PPG on 40% shooting. Gordon is averaging 13.1 PPG on 50% shooting and 44% from 3pt with 2.5 assists, and .7 steals in 27 minutes. Hamilton's PER is 14.5, Gordon's PER is 15.4. Deng's is 14.9. Gordon would still be our 2nd best player (behind Rose) if he were here, and he'd fill a spot that is a gaping would for us right now. Only in your world is starting a guy with a 7 PER a sound decision.
If BG can't even start for a team playing .300 ball, what would make you think he'd start for this bulls team. He isn't even the second best SG in Detroit. They've got him playing backup PG and his TO rate is at an all time high and his usage is at a career low. His shooting % is high because they are finally using him in the correct role, coming off of the bench for 25 minutes a night. But they can't play him any more because his foul rate is the highest it's been since they can't hide him any more than they are against second teams. Check around the league and tell me how many teams have a guy who is the fifth option on offense and has a PER a lot higher than that. Although I think the Bogans experiment should be over and they should go with Brewer and give more minutes to JJ.
You missed the part where Detroit is LOYAL to a long time player who helped them win a championship and all those ECF appearances. Gordon's per 36 PF is 3.9. His foul rate per 48 isn't even 6.
You missed the part where he's still better than BG and part of a team playing .300 ball. I have no problem giving a guy like Hamilton that kind of extension, especially since he is still an ok starter in the league. But why would you pay a guy more money for more years to be his backup?
I think you were reading that upside down. Rip is outscoring, out rebounding, out assisting, and turning it over less in about the same minutes. Wait, let me guess, BG is hurt again...
Seems like playing Gordon and Hamilton in the 2nd half of this game got Hamilton a lot of scoring chances. Guess who drew the double teams. http://theoaklandpress.com/articles...4cfc3e59a30fb353068781.txt?viewmode=fullstory Hamilton was able to get the minutes he wanted in part to the Pistons going to a small lineup to start the second half. Detroit started Ben Gordon in place of Jason Maxiell with Tayshaun Prince sliding to power forward and Hamilton to small forward. “It was fun. BG, me and him both, we’re trying to get as many minutes as we possibly can because it’s hard to catch a rhythm with the limited minutes that we play with,” Hamilton said. “It’s hard because last game I play 17 minutes and tonight I play 35. It’s hard to catch a rhythm in those limited minutes because your role is different than it was in the past. It’s tough, but you got to figure out how to figure it out and try to get things going.” Pistons coach John Kuester said he went with the small lineup in the second half based on what he saw to end the first half. “It was one of those adjustments. Big word ‘adjustments,’ ” Kuester said with a laugh.
And by your broken logic, Keith Bogans is better than Korver because he starts, though Korver is playing more minutes and finishing games.
I knew you were going to quote that garbage. That's how much the pistons suck. They had to switch up their lineup to beat a cratering Cavs team at home. And no, since Korver is scoring more and playing more, and generally has better stats, I'd say he's the better player.
Man, I would take BG back in a heartbeat. I think there's some irony (is it irony?) to the fact that all the Bulls really needed for their starting lineup, at the end of the day, was Joe Johnson. Management actually got that right this off season, even though we were all clamoring for a post presence.
