Kirk Douglas, first rate actor, turning 100 today, pretty damn cool to have had the success and acclaim he's earned.
Always have been a Kirk Douglas Fan, same with Burt Lancaster; "tell 'em Valdez is coming".... my favorite K.D. movies as a kid, and who didn't love Ulysses, or- his Doc Holliday, Spartacus, IMO, His Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde still is my favorite version of that classic story. I could just see Kirk w/Heston in Ben-Hur, they should of cast both. "Cast a Giant Shadow" another favorite, Colonel David Mickey Morris, followed by an all time Classic for the ages, "Paris Is Burning", of which George C. Scott also latter turned into infamy, while Kirk's Patton was just as inspiring. He got short changed, imo.... His modern day "Greedy" with M.J. Fox, Hartman, d'Abo, was one of the best comedies in 94. If you wan't to watch the entire movie here it is: "Diamonds" was a great comedy too, with Bacall, Akroyd. here's the entire movie, (what's with You Tube publishing his movies in their entirety...? "Tough Guys", with Burt Lancaster; was one of my all time favorites, shit what isn't. Incredible career, like his Son's work a lot as well. Always have liked both of their work. Michael is his father's boy, that's for sure... and here is the entire movie. hard to believe, these movies are available.
Douglas was twenty flight in those sword & sandal flicks, Ulysses being my favorite. Always cracked up when Ulysses (Douglas) asked Polyphemus what reward the Greeks would get for introducing him (Polyphemus) to the taste of wine. Polyphemus come back with "I will eat you last" Another Douglas standout with me was his portrayal of Ned Land in 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.
In Harms Way, damn good flick, saw it in Japan, in '65 when it came out. Douglas, Wayne and Hank Fonda headed a superb cast.
