CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Michael Jordan anticipates the Charlotte Hornets will make another big splash this offseason.

Jordan said Monday that with three draft picks and more than $13 million to spend in free agency the Hornets are in position to make a "big difference" in upgrading their roster.

"I think we made a difference last year with Big Al [Jefferson] and some of the acquisitions, and I don't anticipate this year being any different," Jordan said.

    ...

Charlotte finished last season 43-39 and earned the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

However, Jefferson injured his foot in the first game of the postseason and Charlotte was swept by the Miami Heat.

Still, it was a big step in the right direction for a franchise that went 28-120 over the two previous seasons, by far the worst record in the NBA during that span.

    Meh.

MKG is looking like a garbage/hustle player who can't shoot -- 16% from three in two seasons.

    Biyombo looks like Joel Anthony.

The fact that they made the playoffs in the East last year wasn't impressive.

Are any of the recent Cho draft picks going to contribute? Is the rest of the East going to tank again?

They won't have 13 mil to spend after they use their draft picks. Sounds like the makings of a treadmill team. But they're in the east, so that means they will be a perennial playoff team.

I like TOR and WAS a lot better in that conf.

My $.02 is that Jordan has had a terrible record as owner or GM on his own. 43 wins is the second best record in franchise history (they won 44 one other time). Otherwise, the team's records have been dreadful, and the team's roster building wasn't very aggressive. I don't expect they're going to get worse with cap space and picks. Usually with picks it takes a couple of seasons (at least) to figure out the game.

Anyhow, shamsports shows Charlotte with $44.8M in salaries, $42.0M without options, but $15M in cap holds that I assume are going to be waived.

Not saying they will be great or anything but MKG and Biyombo are 20 and 21 and both play pretty good D already. Lot's of room to grow.

I think Zeller will be a good player.

This is an important draft for them.

I liked Cho. But 7th seed in the east isn't exactly a big accomplishment. Out here in the west we call that the "lottery".

But he does hold the title (I believe) for worst winning percentage in a season by a GM . . . that is a pretty big accomplishment

Especially for Ptd because he seems to be able to convince players to come to Ptd.

Considering how bad they were the two previous seasons, 43 wins was a big step up for them.

Cho is a dream GM for some here . . . sink as low as you can possibly go to rebuild and go as high as you possibly can.

Did Cho learn to speak with confidence? Or does Larry Miller still have to babysit him and appear with him at every engagement.

Remember when they introduced Wesley Matthews and Cho together. Matthews, who had just finished his rookie year, was 50 times the public speaker that Cho was.

It's funny seeing some people (on other forums) giving Cho credit for turning Gerald Wallace into a pick. LOL he was actually the one who traded away a pick for G on POR's behalf (which eventually turned out great for us, btw).

I saw on ESPN yesterday that Phx also has 3 draft picks. It will be interesting to see what both Charlotte and Phx do this summer.
