When Bobcats coach Sam Vincent broke up his players into practice units, it was pretty obvious who the starters were.

The guys in the orange jerseys included Emeka Okafor, Gerald Wallace, Jason Richardson, Raymond Felton and Ryan Hollins?Yes, skinny 7-footer Hollins -- the Bobcats' second-round pick of a year ago -- is, at least technically, a starter in training camp.

In truth, that's as much about who's not here (Primoz Brezec and Sean May) as who is.

It also reflects Vincent's reluctance to default to using Okafor primarily as a center. Ideally Okafor plays power forward, Vincent said, although that could quickly change.

If opening night were next week, it wouldn't be a surprise if Okafor opened at center and Walter Herrman started at power forward. That's the safest lineup the Bobcats would field.

As far as big men May (knee injury) and Brezec (excused to address a family matter), Vincent said they're both back in Charlotte.

Brezec has been shooting, and Vincent hopes he'll be in camp soon. May has consulted with various orthopedists, and must decide how to proceed. He's hoping to avoid microfracture surgery on his sore right knee.

"He's like that puppy when you let it out in the backyard the first time. We're getting him to calm that down and he's done a great job of that." -- Okafor, on teaching Hollins when to go after a block and when to avoid a foul.
