There is hope yet for (my) neighbour to the South. New York has had an ongoing "discussion" on whether to sanction mixed martial arts in the State, but it has hit roadblocks, especially in the form of human pylon Bob Reilly. Go here for a rundown of his past antics. Well, not everyone in New York is trying to exploit mixed martial arts as a platform for their own personal agendas. Enter fellow Assemblyman John Bing, in the form of this interview with Cage Potato: You can continue reading the interview here. The honourable John Bing has made millions of friends this day.
Re: Our new best friend: New York Assemblyman John Bing The economic impact that a big UFC event at Madison Square Garden would have is just off the charts. There's no doubt in my mind that the first event at MSG when (yes, not if, it WILL happen at some point) the UFC goes there, the event will be huge - think UFC 92 type card. The public transit system (subways, metro north, etc) would see huge dollars on that day since no one likes to drive into New York. Hotels, food, UFC fans coming to the city for the first time exploring and being a tourist. I'm no economics major, in fact I got a C+ in Microeconomics and a D+ in Macroeconomics, but holy shit New York is missing out on boatloads of money right now.
Re: Our new best friend: New York Assemblyman John Bing I read that article. It's sounds promising but like the guy said this probably won't happen until 2010 at the earliest. Still depending on what time during the year it happens I would probably make the trip, I've always wanted to go to New York.
