Spot on. Mirotic and McDermott are not consistent enough Rondo is not very good. Ditto on Canaan, Grant. Portis as well. Zipser and Felicio I would keep
There are a lot of middling, mismatched players at the bottom of the roster so there's not a clear path to improve the team just by changing rotations. Given how often Hoiberg makes changes to the lineup, I get the impression he agrees with me. It seems like he flips things around a little bit every 5 games to try and see what'll work, and the results are always a little bit different, but ultimately kind of the same. Here are my $0.02: 1). I hated Grant as much as anybody during Summer League, but he's actually played well the last 6 weeks and is the best fit next to Jimmy and Wade. He actually comes pretty close to our ideal version of a 3&D point guard if he cleans up his act a bit. In January he's played at the level of a 7th or 8th man in a rotation so I'd like to see him get the accompanying playing time to go with it. I liked it better with Rondo on the bench and Grant getting 20 mpg. 2). To me Portis, Canaan and Valentine all ought to stay buried on the end of the bench. There's no space for any of them except for special circumstances. 3). For better or worse we don't have much choice other than to play Niko and Doug and try and figure out ways to get the most out of them. The team was kind of built under the assumption that they would pan out. Long term, I think it's wise to choose one or the other because it's difficult to have both getting heavy minutes at the same time. I'd go with Niko personally. 4). Zipser looks like he has the talent to be on an NBA court but I'm still not sure what to make of him yet. Seems like he has the makings of a good role player, but it seems hasty to jump to conclusions based on what I've seen so far.
