<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> The All-Star starters are all set, and soon we'll celebrate the NBA's best of the best. So it seems a good time to also make note of some players who don't really earn their paychecks. We've done this before, but this year we're doing it a little different: the only players eligible for the list are those who haven't missed a significant part (or all) of the season due to injuries. In other words, they're relatively healthy, their wallets are even healthier, and some owner (or two in some cases) is out a couple of days' interest. Here we go. All salaries are this season's based on best estimates from a variety of sources.</div>http://espn.go.com/page2/s/list/overpaidnba.html I think you'll be surprised by some of the picks. Only one Blazer made the list, and it wasn't Mouse or Sheed!
I find it funny how Howard made the honorable mention (lol) list after he took that huge pay cut this season.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Did Layden take spending lessons from Donald "Oooh, that's shiny" Trump?</div> LMAO That's funny!
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Potapenko, who at $5.7 million is one of the highest-paid Sonics, averages 4.2 points and 2.8 rebounds. That's when he plays, which is rarely. Booth, who's started more than half Seattle's games, scores 5.4 points and grabs 4.6 rebounds a game, and is right behind Potapenko on the salary list, making $5.4 million. Jerome James uses his 7-foot-1-inch frame to pull down 3.3 rebounds per game. He averages about 5 points. For this he earns about $4.5 million.</div> I say they win. That's just ridiculous, these guys are making, like, a million per ppg.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting BigMemo:</div><div class="quote_post">I say they win. That's just ridiculous, these guys are making, like, a million per ppg.</div> I agree, and I have watched these guys play for a while. They just seem not to care. If you are over 7 feet there is no excuse for getting 3.3 rpg. Even in the west, they should be scoring more than they are, and getting more boards. One thing that I have noticed though, is that sometimes James does a decent job guarding Shaq.
well, for real, alot of these players you can't blame. The teams themselves are to blame alot of times for throwin' back cheddar at 'em in the first place. Gone are the days when you gotta prove you a star before gettin' paid...and for that we got the owners/team officials to blame..
the owners thought these players could be big time players and pay them crazy money long-term... whenever there's overpaid players topic it always reminds me of allan houston... i mean, this guy is good, but what did Layden think when he offered 25 mil more than any other team could offer... I remember him saying, "they exceeded my expectations" shortly after he signed it. He's now officially the highest paid shooting guard in the NBA, and he's not even selected to this year's east reserve... he's making more than AI, TMac, Kobe, Pierce... this is an unfair world we're living in but I'd sign too if I were him...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting redscoon:</div><div class="quote_post">What about Shawn Kemp? He is still getting paid to sit around and be fat.</div> Technically Kemp isn't a player anymore.
The Nets messed up big-time, and ended up paying big-time for 2 centers who aren't even playing for them anymore. It was a mistake for Rod Thorn to pay Mourning without taking insurance on the contract.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting purehoops:</div><div class="quote_post">I find it funny how Howard made the honorable mention (lol) list after he took that huge pay cut this season.</div> The list is right on track, and yeah it is funny how he made the list even when he isn't getting paid no where near as much. Don't know why he's there.
wow... Tim Thomas at 12mil and Mouse at $14.4 million, how didn't they make the list? I knew Croshere was overpaid, but I didn't know he was getting 7.6 a year. The biggest surprise to me though, is Wesley Person's 7.7Mil a year. I didn't even know this guy was overpaid, especially because he was traded straight up for Bonzi. I thought that move had something to do with the cap also... I guess not.
Before I even clicked the link, I was positive that the Brian Grant would be on it, boy was I surprised. Everyone always talks about Brian Grant and his 12+ million dollar salary and how he doesn't deserve it, i'm glad he was not on the list. Wasn't even in the honorable mentions column either .
Dang! More than half the Knicks starters are overpaid. Dikembe Mutombo is the 2nd overpaid player that can only block and rebound. Maybe Isiah can slice their salary down at the end of their contract.
