With one veteran big man all but gone, the Indiana Pacers ordered in a young one on Thursday. The Pacers selected Myles Turner with the No. 11 pick in the NBA Draft. Turner, a 7-0, 239-pound center, averaged 10.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocks to earn Big 12 Freshman of the Year in his only season at Texas. At 19, Turner became the first teenager drafted by the Pacers since Davis Bertans (who hasn't appeared in an NBA game), who also was 19 when he was selected in the second round in 2011. Of course, with adolescence comes the warning of patience. Even for a lottery pick. So, mute the expectations, dial back the excitement and order more milk for the Pacers' post-game spreads. While head coach Frank Vogel offered his customary optimism, he also often mixed in words like "young," "develop" and "upside" while praising the Pacers' pick. "He's young, obviously he's going to take some time," Vogel said. "We feel like his upside two years, three years from now may be more exciting than what we see this year. But we do feel that he can contribute this year with his ability to shoot the basketball and protect the rim and the way we want to play. Certainly he's a young prospect but a lot of reason to be excited about it." - See more at: http://www.indystar.com/story/sport.../29307295/?from=global&sessionKey=&autologin=
