Zaza Pachulia showed up for his third Hawks training camp in what he called "the best shape of life."

Still, there was something missing. For all the fine-tuning he had done to his body, his South Beach-soaked tan included, Pachulia said he wasn't playing with the carefree flair that usually accompanies his best nights.

He hit his mark for a cosmic stretch in Tuesday night's exhibition win over Minnesota, complete with a driving layup that included the 6-foot-11, 270-pound Pachulia going coast-to-coast and finishing with a behind-his-back dribble with a defender draped on his right shoulder.

Even Hawks coach Mike Woodson couldn't help but smile.

"Zaza was as good as he's been all camp," Woodson said.

Pachulia acknowledged the feeling of being back in a groove, too.

"There's no doubt I'm getting it back," Pachulia said in the locker room that night after his 16-point effort in just less than 20 minutes.

"I'm getting that good feeling back. And I think once I do, everything will take off from there."

That was before Pachulia went down with a sprained left knee in Thursday morning's exhibition win over Charlotte, a 104-98 decision that pushed the Hawks' record to 5-1.

But even if he has to spend a few days off his feet — he said he's feeling pain and will wait to see how he feels in the morning before knowing anything for sure — Pachulia is certain he's regained the form needed to take care of business this season.
