Wife and I were wrapping presents last night and she tells me oh yeah, around my birthday a month ago, a package came with our name and address on it, but we didn't order it. She had forgotten about it.

It was delivered by Amazon. No return address. It's a NEWq H30 external hard drive. Made in China.

Going to try to report it to Amazon and have it returned to sender or whatever. They will probably say to keep it. But, I in no way want to plug this into any of my devices. God knows if there is a virus or whatnot on there.

Has anything like this happened to any of you?

I was trying to keep it a secret, but I thought that was the safest gift to give a nerd. Hope you enjoy it FAMS!

It contains a coded message from 140 years ago. Smash it to bits, then recall a prisoner from the mines to decode the fragments for you.

That has never happened to me. I would be too curious to find out if anything is on it. It could be Willy Wonka's golden ticket. Or a bitcoin. Or a boat!

I bet you or your wife ordered it and just forgot.

Best thing to do at this point is give it in your employers Christmas gift exchange and hope it goes to the boss you don't like.

And it could be full of viruses.

I'm willing to pay $20 and take the risk.

I was going to say not to use it under any circumstances.

It’s not just viruses that are going to damage your computer. Could be problems you would never know about which steal your personal information.

CC - Did you see if Amazon actually sells it? Reporting it is definitely a good idea.

Could have also been a gift from someone who never asked you about it. Do you use social like FB with friends and family on it? If so you could post about it and maybe somebody will see it and respond if it was them.

Yeah, I checked. Amazon sells it. But, definitely going to report it. Just haven't got to it yet.

If someone sent me something, they would have said.

I think either Amazon mistakenly out my name and address on there or it's a scam of some sort.

I have heard its been happening especially around the holidays. Either there is a QR code that steals your information...not one on this package, or they use your name to write a review then send you the product.

Also, like you said there could any number of things on there that are bad. I'm not plugging it in my devices for sure.
