It's pre-season, so you can't read TOO much into it, but here's what I saw in last night's game...

    - Aaron Rodgers looked pretty good, considering the pressure he's under and how nervous he must have been. The interception wasn't his fault and that play was one of three drops that his receivers had. I had forgotten that Rodgers actually has a decent arm. He had nice zip on his passes last night. In the case of that bomb to James Jones, maybe a little too much zip. That should have been an easy, walk in 55 yard touchdown right there.

    - Speaking of James Jones, that guy is an animal. Watching last night and listening to camp reports, the guy has super glue on his hands. He just plain catches EVERYTHING!

    - Brandon Jackson looked good. That makes me feel much better having insurance for Ryan Grant and his new contract.

    - D-Line depth scares the hell out of me. The Packers need to get healthy fast or it's going to be a long year in the middle against the run.

    - Special teams need work. Those two punts of less than 15 yards each are inexcusable. Penalties and turnovers in general were also out of control. McCarthy's going to have his work cut out for him keeping this young team disciplined. Maybe he should get them running more laps like Favre had to for his fumble in Jets practice.

    - Brohm didn't look very good and Flynn only looked serviceable. That, too, is scary not having a veteran on the bench who knows the offense and can step in in a pinch. The Packers have enough talent on both sides of the ball to win a game with a veteran backup, but I don't think they can win with either rookie.

    - Chad Johnson cracks me up for calling out Al Harris and Charles Woodson when our 2nd and 3rd string corners held him to one catch. Gotta love it.

Take heart, Packer fans. Favre may be gone, but the team is still alive and well. I'm encouraged by what I saw last night. I hope it continues and the team's overall health improves. Injuries, to me, are the great big scary thing for this team right now.

I thought Rodgers looked good. Packers would have kicked ass in this game if they played it like a regular season game. It wasn't the 1st unit that lost it.

By the time I got home, last night, AR was done for the evening. From what I saw on the in game highlights and stat lines, he did okay.

The DL can be a source of issues. For instance, Miami's 2007 run D/DL was a major achilles heel.

James Jones is awsome, and on Family night, I watched it on NFL Network whilst on holiday in NM, A-Rod looked crap but our backup RB was a beast.

Gotta remember it was Brian and Matts first NFL game ever. Gotta wait a bit on them.

Rodgers played well especailly without Jennings and Grant.

    Punter needs a new leg.

I hate to be a wet blanket (Who am I kidding? I love being a wet blanket of TRUTH!), but didn't the Cincinnati Bengals finish 27th in the NFL in passing defense and 28th in the NFL in overall defense last year? (They did. I just looked it up at NFL.com.) So, everybody is going to give Aaron Rodgers a gold star and stamp of approval because he looked okay against a defense that totally sucked even when they play their starters for the whole game? (I'm refering to the 07 Bengals def as sucking for whole games.) Geez, you guys are easy and Ted Thompson thanks you for that.

I'm giving Rodgers a gold star because:

    1. He obviously knows the offense inside and out and he executed it perfectly.
    2. There were no real busted plays or ill advised throws.
    3. He's obviously been working on strength and conditioning, because his arm strength was extremely evident.

Bonus: He didn't get hurt and leave the franchise in the hands of Brohm and Flynn. [IMG]

For the first pre-season game, it went as well as it could have. I'm reserving judgment on Rodgers as a whole, however, until I see him play some regular season games.
