Cletidus Hunt has been absent from the Packers facillity for several practices now, and from what Mike Flanigan said it appears he doesn't plan on coming back for a couple of weeks. With that said his a## was already in hot water because of his lazy attitude, I say cut him after we find some stabillity there. Whats everyone else think about this? Also Joey Thomas maybe in and Amahd Carrol maybe out when it comes to starting at CB, Carrol has showed a bad attitude and an unwillingness to learn which has really pissed off Jim Bates along with Mike Sherman. Joey Thomas on the other hand has showed tremendous work ethich and great abillity along with a learning attitude, and since bates has declared all but 4 spots on the D open game it should interesting to see wo starts opposite of Al Harris this season.
I think they should cut Hunt as well. From what it sounds like, Corey Williams is having a great camp. If Hunt doesn't get in soon, they're going to hand over his starting spot to Williams. At that point, I think the Pack will say goodbye to their multimillionaire backup tackle. I personally hope Thomas starts over Carrol. I'm still mad that the Packers took Carrol over Chris Gamble in the draft, so I think it would be poetic justice if Thomas gets the start.
I know man! We could of had one of the best Buckeye's available in the draft not to mention best Corners and athletes! but instead we take a very raw but athletic Carrol, I had never heard of him until he was drafted!
Interesting conversation... <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Rotoworld is reporting that Roman is very close to being cut and that COllins may be starting week 1 in the safety position along with Underwood...would we have the youngest secondary ever with two rookies and a second year player to go along with Harris??</div> pappyjack969 <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I wouldnt be suprised. Ive read that Freeman and Little have been playing in the 1st team defense and Collins and Underwood have been kept together(because of their knowlege of the defense, and being rookies) in the 2nd team defense. Odd man out has been Roman, who has been playing in the 3rd-team defense. The Packers have MORE than enough Safeties, Roman is a waste of space anyway. I also hear that Collins could very well start if he can grasp the defensive scheme well enough. He has the athletic ability and knack for the ball. If you dont believe it SOULTINK. Read the link... Link on Collins http://www.jsonline.com/packer/news/jun05/331907.asp Link on Roman http://www.jsonline.com/packer/news/jun05/331931.asp Like ive posted before, we have 7 safeties in camp right now. Roman, Little, Freeman, Curry, Franz, Underwood + Collins. Freeman is the best vetran Safety on our club right now. He also knows Bates' system more than anyone. I wouldnt be suprise if he starts at FS this year. Curry/Franz: Who? and Who? These guys are nobody's, rosterfillers. Kinda like in the movies, if you dont know their names...they probably end up getting killed, lol. Or Cut in this sense. Collins/Underwood: Our draft picks. You know we'll end up keeping our two draft pick safeties and two vetrans to fill out our safeties. Collins is the best athlete of the bunch and our 2nd rounder. He wont be cut. Most likely the same with Underwood. When is the last time the Packers cut a early or mid-round draft pick? Little/Roman: I think it comes down to which of these two the Packers will cut. Freeman will start, and they will want one more vetran around just in case. From reports it says Little + Freeman are running the 1st Defense, while Roman was running in the 3rd (Collins + Underwood in 2nd). My guess is Roman is out. My opinion, Roman is not a Packer when the season starts.</div> Sparx1_69
The secondary is a mess right now. I do think that Al Harris and Arturo Freeman are the only locks right now. I'll almost guarantee that Joey Thomas will start opposite Harris. He spent the offseason in Green Bay learning the defense while Carroll did nothing. That and the fact that Carroll is still holding everyone in practice is not helping matters. Roman will get a fair shake. Bates says he's doing fine. They're going to do their best to get Collins in there as the starter, but I can't imagine them NOT keeping Roman on the roster as a backup, at least. Curry and Franz will be gone. I'm guessing they'll keep Little. Underwood will probably stay on as a CB and play special teams. Like I said...an absolute mess back there.
I think Little and Freeman will be our starting Safeties, Harris and Thomas will be our starting Corners. If Carrol proves he is disciplined and stops holding so much then he and Thomas will battle it out for the starting spot through out Camp and Pre Seaon.
Lions signed RW McQuarters...they wont get Ty Law anymore..we should get him! I mean come on, he's like the best Corner in the NFL..Al Harris and Ty Law..Imagine that, any other better CB duo's than that? Not even the Ravens or Vikings! (Well I dunno about the Ravens) Ty Law would be a great leader as well, he would pump up the rest of the D and we would be unstoppable! Cause we already know our offense is top 5. With Law signing, heck Walker might even change his mind about holding out and join the squad again! What do you guys think? You think we have a chance at signing him? Do we even have the money? But will he fit the Salary cap....?
We could probably afford Law if we cut Hunt and did a bit of restructuring, but he would seriously stretch the cap to the limit. I don't think Ted Thompson would want to do that. Law might be looking for a warm weather team at this point, too.
Yeah Law is good and all but if we sign any more big name DB's the next one will most likely be Lance Schulters.
What can we do?? The secondary isn't that good but I do have a few good things to say. 1. Cledius Hunt is a no show. Hell thats the best new I've heard in years from this defense. Donell Washington has enormous amount of potential as does Corey Williams. 2. Jim Bates is one of the best defensive coordinators in the game. Top 3 for sure. He will have them better than last year. 3. We only lost 1 starter and that was Sharper. Hunt will probably show eventually to the team but Sharper is a huge lost. Was it just me or was he hurt a lot the past couple of years anyway. 4. They were young. A lof of young guys who have raw talent that will get better. Now we aren't a top 15 defense but they might be able to play good enough to win us game cause you no the offense will do its thing.
Exactly what I think, I say we move up no more than 20th in D, but this D will not give up the huge plays, and Bates Will not tolerate Pussy Tackles cough cough Joey thomas Cough.
Well Joey Thomas looks like he is gonna start along with Harris. Donell Washington is probably going to be a new starter at DT along with Grady. We have a chance that at least 4 or 5 new starters are on this defense. I don't know if that is good since all we lost was Sharper. Arturo Freeman at saftey Earl Little or Nick Collins at the other saftey Raymont Thompson at OLB A long with Thomas ans Washington. I am going to think Bates knows what he is doing. He said there is a lot of talent on this defense that just needs to be pushed more.
Yeah the only starters declared were Grady, KGB, Kampman, and Harris every thing else is up for grabs and thats the way I like it! Joey has potential but he needs to learn how to tackle thats one thing Carrol has over him is his abillity to bring a guy down. Freeman, and Little should start at the beginning with Collins slowly phasing one or the other out as the year progresses. If Roman is kept he will play CB and Nickle aswell as Backup safety. Donell Washington is a beast and should definatley get alot of time, but some of the other young guys like Cullen Jenkins(Chris Jenkins little bro) are pushing for the starting spot.
