"When Alex Green joined the University of Hawaii football program in 2009, he arrived on campus on a Friday in late July and three days later was on the field for the start of preseason practices. Before landing on the island, the running back never had seen the team's playbook. So if anyone knows what this year's group of NFL rookies is facing, it's Green, the Green Bay Packers' third-round draft pick. That doesn't mean he thinks it will be easy. As a junior college transfer, he failed to win a starting job in his first season of Division I football and had only a minimal impact, rushing 86 times for 453 yards and two touchdowns as a backup. A year later, he became the starter, and rushed for 1,199 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior, setting himself up to be drafted. "It's kind of the same situation as far as that whole process goes," said Green, who arrived at Packers headquarters on Tuesday and immediately began studying his playbook and meeting with the coaches. "I came into Hawaii, and they said learn this and go out there and do it. I hadn't seen the playbook. I had no spring practices. It's the same situation. I know how to handle the situation a little bit more than I would have if I didn't go through that at Hawaii." Green is among a handful of rookies who will have an opportunity to make an impact on the defending Super Bowl champs if they can quickly acclimate themselves to the NFL game."
