In past years, the Welterweights have had a long list of great fighters. Names like Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, & Thomas Hearns are only a few. In recent years though, Floyd Mayweather, and Manny Pacquiao have commanded the spotlight. The debate on whether these two fighters will ever square off in the ring or not, intrigues boxing fans worldwide. Here is what I think it’ll take to make this super fight a reality.

    Mayweather defeating Victor Ortiz

Undefeated Floyd Mayweather, and WBC Welterweight champion, Victor Ortiz are set to battle on September 17, at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Floyd is an 8 to 1 favorite against the young southpaw. Ortiz, 29-2-2 (22), won’t be a walk in the park. Especially if Floyd fights like he said he will. Mayweather stated “I will stand and fight Ortiz”. I’m not sure he’ll stay with this game plan though, seeing as Shane Mosley easily changed Floyd’s mind in the second round of their bout. Causing Mayweather to revert back to what he knows best. Defensive fighting. Victor will be their to fight, since all of his opponents hit the canvas at least once. If Floyd loses to Ortiz, not only does he lose his beloved zero, but he may lose some marketability too. Not to mention fight fans wouldn’t want Pacquiao/Mayweather anymore, but Pacquiao/Ortiz.
