We flew my Grandma here from Mexico as she has been sick and lost a lot of weight recently and recently was getting a little Jaundiced. They did an ultra sound on her and didnt see anything so they thought it might be Stones, which were backing up bile causing the Jaundiced.

She had an MRI on Friday and they noticed some whiteness in the Pancreas and while we still dont know for sure, but its looking like Pancreatic Cancer. I know how low the survival rate is with this thing and all that. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone knows anyone who has gone through it. And maybe what to expect. Trying to prepare myself for this. This set of Grandparents are as close to me as parents. My Grandpa (her husband) died in 2002 of Liver Cancer, and I was a mess then. Just trying to prepare myself better this time.

My grandpa had pancreatic cancer. The good thing is, its one of the most treatable cancers. However, like all cancer it can spread like a wildfire. If its detected early, its very treatable.

Thats the catch though right? "If detected early". I read up some about it at work and read something like only a 20% survival rate, cause most of the time the symptoms of pancreatic cancer arent seen/felt until its too late. Sorry just the eternal pessimist with this. Thank you for the info.

I had a coworker (he was 40-ish years old) who had a lingering back/neck pain, and after a while it was determined that it was sympathetic pain from pancreatic cancer.

He was gone a few months later.

I hope that your grandma beats the odds, man, and I'm sorry you all have to go through it :(

wow thats scary how fast things can go downhill when things are finally found!

Thanks for the kind words Ed.

All I can hope at this point is that its somehow not that.

I hope so, too. Regardless of what it is, she's lucky to have family that will be with her as she battles through it all.

Sorry to hear that, Wheels. I'm glad that your family is in a position to be with her and take care of her, regardless of the outcome.

Steve Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but it was detected early, and the tumor was successfully excised.

Hope the same with your grandmother. Better yet, hope it's not even cancer at all. Good luck with the CT scan.

Whatever you do, don't give up hope and tell her to keep fighting. One's attitude and willingness to battle plays a large role in recovery. My sister's cousin was diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma. She received an experimental treatment and was given a 4% chance of survival. Nine months later, she's cancer free. Throughout it all, she kept a positive attitude.

    Best wishes to your grandmother.

I'm sorry. Lets hope that its not the cancer, but if it is, hang in there. Family is what will get all of you through this, especially her.

    I'll be praying, Wheels.

    The Chili Peppers seem irrelevant.

Thanks Paisano. I remember going through this with my Grandfather and how quickly things went downhill. And from what I've read, Pancreatic Cancer is even more grim. Can only hope it was either caught early, or something else entirely. This waiting game is the worst part. I went to Wal Mart and bought a hundred bucks of Yard Supplies yesterday just to come home and keep busy.

Thanks man, and def Family gets you through this. I really learned last time without Family and those close to you, you really have nothing. Very thankful that I have that. And to those who also have it, please dont ever forget it, or not cherish it. Also as corny as it sounds even then RHCP arent irrelevant. Some of my lowest times and highest points in my life I can recall the Chili's playing in the background. In a life and world full of so much change, things that are constant can really help you keep your sanity. :)

I can offer no medical opinion, just the usual "chin up".

    ditto on the prayers
