Panthers cut to fit Smith

Return means backup linebacker Curry released to maintain 53-man roster

 With wide receiver Steve Smith returning from a two-game suspension, the Panthers released a player to stay at the 53-man roster limit. The deadline was 4 p.m. Wednesday, but the Panthers released backup linebacker/special teamer Donte' Curry on Tuesday.

Curry was a key special teams player last year, but was inactive for this season's first two games.
The move could be an indiciation that Ryne Robinson isn't ready to return yet from knee injury.

Convential logic was that if Robinson was ready to return, current returner Mark Jones could be released.
Jones has been handling punt returns and rookie Jonathan Stewart has taken kickoff returns in Robinson's absence.

Robinson handled both duties last season and could do the same once he returns.
