At that time, we were made aware by Parcells that he was considering a revised offer from the Miami Dolphins. He later informed us that he would not be signing a contract with us. "We remain committed to looking at every option for building a championship- caliber team for our fans. I have stated we will leave no stone unturned in doing so, and this effort is one example of that. We gave it our best shot, and it didn't work out. "We will continue down the same overall path, proceeding with plans to hire a general manager and a head coach. We will identify and consider every strongly viable candidate for these positions, with the goal of hiring the best. Rich McKay remains President of the club and will retain general manager responsibilities until a new GM is hired. "We will be making no further comment on the Parcells matter." Parcells seemed convinced he would wind up in Atlanta during his interview with the Daily News. "I think I probably will do it," Parcells told the newspaper by phone from his home. "The job description is to be the football operations overseer. We still have a little work to do, but I don't think it's anything major. I don't expect any real deal-breaker. I don't think there will be any major hangups." Parcells retired as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys after last season. After taking over for the Cowboys in January of 2003, Parcells posted a regular-season record of 34-30 during his four-year tenure. The Cowboys had three winning seasons and two playoff appearances under Parcells, but the team dropped both of its postseason games -- losing to Carolina in 2003 and Seattle last season. Parcells had an overall head coaching mark of 172-130-1 in the regular season with the Cowboys, New York Jets, New England Patriots and New York Giants, winning Super Bowl titles after the 1986 and 1990 seasons during an eight-year run with the Giants. He has an 11-8 record in the playoffs and is one of only five coaches to guide two different teams to the Super Bowl, joining Don Shula, Dan Reeves, Dick Vermeil and Mike Holmgren. Nine of Parcells' 19 teams won at least 10 games in a season and he directed 10 squads to the playoffs. Parcells spent the first 15 years of his coaching career at the collegiate level, including one season as the head coach at the Air Force Academy. He then moved on to the NFL as an assistant in 1979 with the Giants, spent the 1980 season as the linebackers coach with New England and returned to the Giants as the defensive coordinator for 1981 and '82 before taking over the head coaching duties in 1983.

Thats good news for the Dolphins. Any chance that in a year or two he'll end up being the coach of the Fins?

I don't even think he will GM, but HOPEFULLY he will oversee the Dolphins football operations. I'm just excited to have his voice being heard in the Dolphins decision making processes. Also, besides being a great resource for Mueller and Cameron, if Wayne H. and Parcells are wanting to keep those two then the addition of Parcells might buy some time and lend some credibility to them as they rebuild the team.
Parcells is a big name, but I'm not so sure he has been that successful in such a role. If he wants to coach the Dolphins, I'm all for it, but I'd rather they try to pry Belichick's right hand man (and Parcells' son-in-law), Scott Pioli, from the Patriots to run the football operations.
Ive always thought that the best aspect of Parcells was his ability to pick players....hes a top 2-3 personnel man in the league in my opinion....If this happens, I believe Cameron and Mueller will be back....Cam Cameron has really done a remarkable job of keeping an even disposition through a time when most coaches would have melted down....5 days ago, I had little hope for the immediate future....all of the sudden, things are looking much brighter....

He's always had a say when it comes to the draft and in FA. And everywhere he's gone, when he leaves, they're left with talent and are a lot better than they were before.
I still have a lot of respect for Parcells and I agree, his ability to evaluate talent and stick to a vision when building a roster are his real strengths. If he would take a front office position instead of coaching, the fatigue and exhaustion wouldn't take as much of an impact on him and he could really help set that organization on the right direction.
I just can't stop thinking about this thing....I hope this gets done asap, because I am losing my mind
I did not know Miami was looking until I read the Falcons had contacted for a similar position. Whats interesting (I read somewhere) is Razorback Alum Jerry Jones told Blank that Petrino was leaving or thinking about it. I personally am nonplussed about Parcells in Miami. Though, I'd take him over Cowher. As long as he doesn't upset the apple cart as it stands now. I think Cam & Randy are on to something. In the phins forum, I stated that the first 4 picks of 07 have promise. -- Ginn, Beck, Satele, & L. Booker. Whats funny is; Belichick is a disciple Parcells and Bill B's buddy is *ick Sa*an. rofl?
I haven't had any respect for Parcells since it came out that he was in contact with the Jets the week of Super Bowl 31 when he was still coaching the Patriots and they were about to play the Packers in the Super Bowl. Considering what Miami just went through with Saban, I don't like bringing in a guy with that track record.
I agree w/ Thrilla to a degree. I think he'll be making out the shopping list & advising on which stores to use but leave RM & CC to do the shopping and make the casserole. This just in; Tuna is a phin http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7584236?MSNHPHMA Merry Christmas, Beef & Dale I wonder if the whole Wayne selling was a (dare I say) Red herring? rofl?
