Paulo Filho's manager was contacted by the UFC to let him know that Paulo has been released from his contract and will not be moved over to the UFC when the WEC's Middle Weight and Light Heavyweight divisions are officially closed. Filho was considered by many to be a top 5 middleweight prior to his bizarre performance at WEC 36 vs Chael Sonnen. Now who knows where Paulo's head is at. chances are if he can get back to being the dominant fighter he was when he fought in PRIDE, he will be resigned to the UFC as he is good friends with Anderson Silva.
After some of what he has pulled this year, trying to dodge Chael Sonnen twice, and then looking completely useless when the fight actually came this might be well deserved. First he went to rehab, then he shows up grossly overweight, didn't miss by a pound or two but by like 5 or 6 pounds. He just didn't seem like he wanted to fight other good fighters, and I can see someone getting released for that.
I just hope he gets the right help.. he has some personal issues he has to deal with before stepping in the ring again.
