General manager John Paxson is likely to sit tight because the Bulls? future holds so many possibilities.

Next summer, the Bulls will have two first-round draft picks and at least $15 million in salary-cap room to pursue free agents.

The New York Knicks? top pick, which the Bulls acquired in the Eddy Curry trade, is looking better each week. Through Sunday, the Knicks were tied with Atlanta for the league?s second-worst record.

On top of that, too many Bulls require further evaluation.

It would be tough to break up the small-guard trio of Chris Duhon, Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon, even if height is an issue. Hinrich and Duhon have proven they can guard taller backcourts, while clutch shooters like Gordon are difficult to find.

On the front line, Luol Deng is just starting to blossom, Darius Songaila is getting comfortable, and Andres Nocioni has been even better than the Bulls expected.

The Bulls may have to play through their flaws this season. If Washington and New Jersey improve, that could easily mean missing the playoffs.

From Artest to Harrington: The Ron Artest trade derby is supposed to heat up after the holidays. The most interested parties appear to be Denver (Nene and Earl Watson), the Clippers (Chris Wilcox), Minnesota (Michael Olowokandi) and the Lakers (good question).

The Bulls never had any interest in Artest, who spent his first 2? seasons in Chicago.

Indiana still seems hot on getting Al Harrington back from Atlanta and is reportedly trying to arrange a three-team deal with the Hawks.

The Bulls would love to get Harrington, who will be a free agent next summer, but they aren?t about to give up New York?s first-round draft pick when the Knicks are one of the league?s three worst teams. Feel free to imagine Texas center LaMarcus Aldridge as Eddy Curry?s replacement.</div>
