Instead of merely discussing the obvious off-season on-the-court goals, as he did with all players, Paxson also addressed with Gordon and Deng the window opening for their contract extensions on July 1. "I really don't know what's going to happen," Gordon said. "Pax said he definitely wants to get something done. If everything can be worked out, I'd love to stay here. Who is more important? Deng or Gordon? I have no worries about Deng staying, but Gordon I am not so sure about. I am kinda hoping Hinrich doesn't make the USA team.
Yeah if either of them have to go it'd be Gordon. I like the guy and all but Deng's the future of the franchise, Gordon's way more expendable than him.
I think Gordon should go if I had to choose. Luol has shown us this seasons that hes capable of so much more in a few years. Add in the fact that he will be adding a post game this offseason and you can see why we should keep him. In addition Ben is just too short to play the 2. He can't handle or pass well and hes not quick for his position. Its easy to bother him with atheletic 2 guards. His defense is shocking as well. Theres pretty much no way he'll be any good defensively because his feet aren't quick and his anticipation isn't good. But oh my lord can he fill it up.
I would love to keep both of them, and I do think it's feasible. Both have a lot of value on the market, but I'm willing to bet if Chicago gives them a good enough offer, it'll be enough to keep them. I just don't want to overpay to keep them around.
From the news I have been reading lately, people around the Chicago media are expecting that Gordon will actually end up costing more than Deng will, or at least will be looking for more money. I love both of these guys, and if you asked me a couple months ago which I would rather keep I might have said Gordon. However, Deng has really taken his game to another level, and I don't know how far we can take this team with an undersized back court of Gordon/Hinrich. I really hope we resign both, but if I had to pick one at this moment, it would be Deng.
Truthfully, I wouldn't be all that sad to see Gordon leaving. He's still too inconsistent and loses control of the ball too often. He's a good scoring option, but that's all we seem to get out of him and if we had a great post players we wouldn't need to worry about replacing his numbers. We'd actually increase our numbers as a team overall. Kirk Hinrich is already a very intelligent player who could benefit from having a great post player. I think we've all put too much on Gordon, but who can blame us? He had such an amazing rookie season down the stretch and we stay dedicated to our players thick and thin. Time for change though, especially if he wants too much. We'll need to take another direction and re-sign Deng and Nocioni.
It really depends on how much Gordon is asking for. I am sure that Gordon is getting his a$$ trained this summer so that he can be better with the ball and a more consistent shooter.
