You all probably heard about the Jason Kidd rumor, but there's another rumor that Payton might be traded to Boston for Chris Mihm and Chucky Atkins. http://hoopshype.com/
hmmm Personally I'd much rather keep Payton. He is a great player but the triangle offense messed up his game. Chris Mihm is basically a scrub. Chucky Atkins a average point guard and isn't even as good as Payton. Payton will probsably average about 18 PPG if he stays with the Lakers. People see Payton as a crappy player just because of one roush system and playoff. He is still a great player. Just wait and see Gary Payton haters.
It's just funny how you guys went from Shaquille O'neal to bits and pieces of a center. Kobe is gonna have to average 50 points if you do this trade, cuz Mihm is not an offensive or defensive presence at all.

Actually...I'd rather have Jamal Sampson or Horace Grant playing the paint. To stick to the topic, we need to keep Payton unless we are getting Kidd. Payton just had problems with the triangle...what happened in the Finals will never happen again.

Big men aren't the most important thing in basketball. Michael Jordan played with Perdue, Cartwright, Longley, Wennington, and Grant...where does Mihm fit in with that group? Better or worse than those players? I'm going to laugh my @ss off when the Miami Heat realize that Shaq is just an expensive liability, and when he retires in two years, how they're gonna wish they didn't spend $30 million a year for a guy who probably will go out like Ewing did in Seattle, or Hakeem in Toronto. Worse, he'll probaby be injured and sit the bench for his huge paycheck. Either way, like I said...I'm glad the ogre is gone...so he doesn't snowplow our fans the next time he gets hit by Tayshaun Prince.
I didn't get the point of your post. I don't see any reason why I should believe Mihm will do better than Shaq if he was still in a Lakers uni this upcoming season.

I said that I'd rather have Mihm. Shaq would just cause a sh*tload of drama like he did last year, especially now...so why have a guy who's not ever going to get any better, plus keeping him when he's going to cause trouble? If I was Buss, I would say to myself, "Hey, why should I risk another season with Bryant/Shaq, when they haven't gotten it done in two years?" Then I'd seek the problem...which IMO is Shaq. If your thoughts are against Kobe, that's fine too...but out of the two, which will eat up the cap more? Shaq, by about twice as much. Which of these two star players will retire first? Shaq, in a bout two years...during his contract. Which of these two guys is already past their prime? Shaq. Get rid of Shaq while he's declining, not after he's a worthless scrub.

ESPN.com news services The Lakers, in need of a big man since trading Shaquille O'Neal to Miami last month, had to give up Gary Payton to get one. A source within the Celtics organization has told ESPN.com's Bill Simmons that Boston has dealt Chris Mihm (in a sign-and-trade), guard Marcus Banks, forward Chucky Atkins and a future second-round pick to Los Angeles for Payton, Rick Fox and a lottery-protected first-round draft pick. Boston also receives cash in the deal, the source told Simmons. The Celtics have scheduled a 4 p.m. ET news conference to announce the trade. Payton, who in June exercised his $5.4 million option to play with the team next year, struggled in his only season with the Lakers' triangle offense. He started all 104 games the team played -- 82 in the regular season and 22 in the playoffs -- but averaged 14.6 points, his lowest output since the 1992-93 season, and a career-low 4.2 assists in the regular season
