For roughly 45 minutes earlier this week, Mike Pelfrey dozed on his flight from Wichita, Kan., to San Francisco. It wound up costing him his next start.

Pelfrey woke up with a stiff neck, prompting the Mets to scratch him from his scheduled Saturday outing against the Giants. Though Pelfrey felt considerably better Friday, he will instead start Monday's series opener in Arizona. Hisanori Takahashi, who was scheduled to start that game, will move up to Saturday.

The switch will not affect Johan Santana, who is still scheduled to start Sunday's series finale in San Francisco.

Nor will it particularly affect Pelfrey, who should be back to 100 percent well in advance of his Monday start. Stiff necks rarely linger for long.

"They worked on it and it's 10 times better today," Pelfrey said Friday afternoon. "I told them I could pitch, and they said they didn't want me to alter anything in my motion. They just gave me an extra [two days] since we have the flexibility to do that."
