Before touting a newly arriving player as the new_____________________. they should be given time to prove their mettle. I got tired of hearing about Othani before the season began. Babe Ruth of Japan your ass, there was only one Babe. This has to be a stunner for the Angels in their remaining season. Trout was pretty well hyped as well but Trout exceeded expectation and stood the test of time. I don't like to see any player lose his livelihood for any legitimate reason.
^^^^ Well said, the constant barrage of Ohtani propaganda in Southern California has utterly drove me not to see red but navy blue... MLB and sports writers were tooting his horn before he even threw a ball or hit one... I don't like to see anyone lose their livelihood either, tho' I could see this one Fall From Grace in advance as inevitable Karma... There will never ever be another Bambino, and as LA & MLB Sports writers have tooted his horn in sacrilege and blasphemy, this was an inevitable Looong Fall From Grace...
A shame to see him get hurt, but also good riddance. I was so sick of hearing how amazing he was when they were cherry picking the lineups he would pitch against. The only legit lineup he saw as a pitcher was Boston and they knocked him around. Hopefully he will be able to recover from the injury but enough with proclaiming any guys in any sport to be the next greatest ever before they even play one game.
...I was never on the Ohtani train...how many Asian pitchers who have come to MLB, how many have ever lived up to the hype or contract they were given? ...almost all were either injured or just plain sucked...and the Yanx have been burned multiple times by buying into the hype. ...in general, Asian pitchers do not transition well to MLB.
^^^^ Amen... Cherry picking indeed. Sciosa's had 7 good yrs in 18 as a Mgr, 11 sub-par &/or pathetic yrs. Like Ohtani, Sciosa's also over hyped by blind homer sports writers. Now the Angels GM is refuting the claim on Ohtanis pending Tommy John stating that the original report is flawed and that alternat treatments can be used. Looks like we've got another Brad & Jen, Harry & Meghan, William and Kate story in the works.
