Not much I ever agreed with from Lasorda but he pretty much got that theory of a baseball season progression right online.
...I think I read a similar quote than may have been by Lasorda or a another skipper from the same era...but it read something like " a team will lose 1/3 of its games regardless of what the coach does, and will win 1/3 of its game regardless of what the coach does....but it's how well the team does in the other remaining 1/3 of its other games that determines how good a coach really is".
Actually the quote in your post is the exact one Tommy made. I did a self paraphrase. For sure not a Dodger Fan remembering when they played in Brooklyn but Lasorda did do a damn nice job of managing that team. His history against the Yankees went from the '50's on up into the '80's.
