Good Interesting read, and video 59, I didn't hear about this story. 2 words: "Scott Bor-Ass" Bryant is a helluva young ballplayer; its bothersome, to see young players these days file grievances, as if its their inalienable right to play. what ever happened to the players, who were simply happier than hell just to be given a chance, or shot at playing for the Big Clubs... ...between him being a Boras client and the Cubs slick strategic moves, I don't see Bryant resigning with them.
Same feeling I got, this kid is something special, and Yep, I do believe he's got a chip on his shoulder, against Epstein & Co., hopefully for the better....I'd love to see Bryant in Pinstripes. We need a thunder alley specialist badly. Signing Headly thru 2018, was a BIG mistake IMO......
...yup, they're kinda acting coy about the whole thing. But in fairness they were within the rules. But then again on the other side of the coin, it's something they did not have to do and IMO, used poor judgement. ...the Cubs know that this kid will be a force for many years, but I think the Cubs have now blown any chance of locking him up early for possibly the next 10 years. Boras doesn't normally allow his clients to sign early and forego the FA open market but maybe Boras would have been willing to take his cut now instead of taking a big chance and waiting till 2019.
Honestly in typical Cashman fashion that was just a case of looking like you're doing something as opposed to standing pat.
Bryant had an excellent Spring Training, proving He was the 3rd baseman, who should start Opening Day. When he was sent back down, the explanation of needing more seasoning, did not make a lick of sense..... I foresee Bryant leaving the Cubs in the future, just when He hits his prime and stride...... Or- maybe Epstein will throw a shit load of Money at Him, in the future....? This will be interesting to see unfold as time goes by. If Bryant can simply continue to improve each year, or maintain the quality of his game from both sides of the ball, he will be a force to reckon with, no doubt.....
I think the best way to describe it is cutting of your nose in spite of your face. It was like an FU to Boras and says ha ha we screwed you for an extra year at our price. Well like you said if he continues tearing it up the next few years he's either not going to resign there as a free agent or they're certainly going to look to take that extra year out on your in negotiations at that point anyway. To me it was within the rules but when you flesh it out it wasn't a good business decision in the long run.
