By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez connected for his 20th career grand slam, Andy Pettitte won for the seventh time in eight decisions and Robinson Cano also homered as the Yankees defeated the Indians, 11-2, on Memorial Day at Yankee Stadium. Rodriguez's 590th career home run gave the Yankees plenty of additional padding in support of the very sharp Pettitte, who allowed only Jhonny Peralta's solo home run, scattering four hits while retiring the final 14 Indians to face him. The Yankees broke the game open with a six-run seventh. Two hits and an intentional walk set up A-Rod, who greeted Chris Perez with a towering drive to deep center, moving past Eddie Murray on baseball's all-time list with his 20th grand slam, trailing only Manny Ramirez (21) and Lou Gehrig (23). Behind Pettitte, who walked none and struck out five, the Yankees put a quick lead on the board against Indians right-hander Mitch Talbot in the first inning. Curtis Granderson doubled down the right-field line and scored on Rodriguez's sharp single to center. New York added a second run in the fourth inning, as Nick Swisher doubled to right and came home on Brett Gardner's run-scoring hit to center, one of three hits on the afternoon for the speedy outfielder. Talbot surrendered nine hits in 6 1/3 innings, walking none, striking out three while hitting both Derek Jeter and A-Rod as the Yankees took three out of four games from Cleveland in the weekend wraparound series.
