By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com NEW YORK -- Last November on the same field, Andy Pettitte was credited as the winning pitcher when the final out of the 2009 World Series was recorded. Though he pitched well on Thursday in a rematch of those two clubs, it was not enough to create the same end result. Pettitte allowed three runs over seven innings in a quality start, but the Yankees' slumping offense was not able to solve Kyle Kendrick as the Phillies posted a 7-1 victory at Yankee Stadium in the rubber game of the three-game Interstate 95 series. Shane Victorino's two-run home run in the fifth inning was the big blow off Pettitte, who retired the first nine batters to face him before Victorino opened the fourth with a single. Ramiro Pena booted a ground ball that moved Victorino up and Ryan Howard drove in an unearned run with a single to right. Pettitte escaped trouble in the seventh, after a double and two walks presented him with a bases-loaded, one-out situation. Polanco chopped a grounder to first base that Mark Teixeira threw home for a force, and Pettitte got Ryan Howard to wave at a cutter for strike three, unloading a huge fist pump as he walked off the mound. The start was Pettitte's 11th this season allowing two earned runs or fewer, most in the American League, as he scattered six hits while walking three and striking out seven. As gritty as Pettitte's outing was, Kendrick was a touch better, holding New York to a run on four hits over seven innings, walking two and striking out three. Kendrick stifled the Yankees until the sixth, getting the first two outs before losing Mark Teixeira to a walk. Alex Rodriguez followed with a ground single to left and Robinson Cano cashed the first Yankees run with a sharp hit to right field. But Kendrick escaped when Placido Polanco sprawled over the tarp, reining in Nick Swisher's foul pop to end the inning.
