I loved Andre Miller. He was one of those guys who does a million things well. He was the anti-Raymond Felton.
I hope he ends up being good. However, he was the 3rd PG on a Celtics team that has Isaiah Thomas and Marcus Smart. So, who did they draft? Terry Rozier, a PG with the 16th pick. Plenty of decent players were left including Dekker and Portis. So, either Ainge thinks Rozier is a game changer as a THIRD PG, or that he doesn't like Pressey much. Regardless, I don't think Rozier is getting too many minutes either.
I find it hard to believe that Ainge would choose who he drafted in the first round based on his 3rd string needs. So i am going to go with he just thought Rozier was the best player available. Being an former PG, I just think he values the position and he also has a good eye for good ones. The fact that he liked Pressey in the first place seems like another plus for us picking him up. On another note I bet he sees the advantage of starting two PGs. If I had Smart I know I would.
I could see him deciding to draft Rozier and Hunter to give him flexibility for a big midseason trade. In a scenario where Cousins becomes available, they could send Sacremento Smart (PGotf), Hunter(Shooter off the bench), Sullinger (fits well next to WCS), and picks. Boston would have Rozier and Thomas as PGs and Avery Bradley and Evan Turner as your SGs... They'd still have enough gaurds and Cousins, Lee, Amir Johnson and Olynyk are a great group of bigs. Not to say its Cousins, it could be someone else, but I think they drafted them so that they had the flexibility to turn a couple gaurds into an even better gaurd or to trade a couple gaurds + filler for a legit SF, PF, or C.
Pressey is what Frazier wishes he could be. He's the same type of player but plays much more under control.
Not really. Not much better than Frazier. At least not by looking sat the numbers. Don't get me wrong. After watching the footage, its clear Pressey is better than Frazier, but lets not blow his shooting out of proportion. He cant really shoot either. What concerns me the most is his FT%. Ive always felt a PG should be at 80% or more or they become a liability because of how much they handle the ball.
Ok... Couple things after watching: He's WAY more under control than Fraizer. He's got DIMES.. Watch the 2nd vid and I don't care if you're a Hip-Hop fan or not but Mos Def is droppin' KNOWLEDGE on that track! Watch it again and listen closely to the lyrics of "Mathematics". So real.
