<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Today Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon pays the piper. Earlier this month, he wagered on the outcome of the Western Conference Finals, betting Dallas Mayor Laura Miller that the Suns would best the Mavericks in the seven-game series. Among the terms? The loser had to wear a jersey from the opposing team during a city council meeting. Unfortunately, Dallas beat Phoenix in six games. So today, Gordon will preside over city business sporting a Mavericks jersey signed by Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki. To make the task a little less painful, Gordon's spokesman has arranged for the rest of the Phoenix City Council to don Suns jerseys. Each will bear the council member's name and his or her district number. Suns President Rick Welts will attend the council's afternoon policy session and show a short clip of video highlights from the Suns season; the council plans to congratulate him on the team's performance. "We just want to thank them for energizing the community and being great ambassadors for Phoenix," said Scott Phelps, the mayor's spokesman. "Next year, we'll be in the finals." After the meeting, the Nowitzki jersey will be returned to Dallas to be auctioned for charity. A Suns jersey bearing Steve Nash's signature, which was to be worn by the Dallas mayor in the event of a Suns victory, will be used for the same purpose.</div> Source
