Pierce Wants To Represent U.S. in Olympics <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"Boston Celtics guard Paul Pierce plans to call USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo soon to express his hopes of being on the national team. Pierce led the 2002 World Championships team with 19.8 points per game, but was accused of selfishness as Team USA finished a disappointing 6-3, lost for the first time with NBA players and failed to win a medal, placing sixth instead. He wanted to play for his country at the Athens Olympics in 2004 but did not make the team."</div> -Denver Post I can't find a link since it is from hoopshype but this was reported in the Denver Post. So far the players who have shown interest are Gilbert Arenas, Steve Francis, Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce. Nothing is official but these guys would all like to suit up in 2008 for Team USA.
I'm not a fan of Gil going depending what role they use him in, but he brings great outside shooting, and when he has good teammates around him he will pass the ball to them. Francis? No, please, he has no value, not a true PG, not a shooter, and is like a worse version of Wade. Pierce is an interesting one, not sure how he would fit, and as a SF I'd rather see Lebron, Marion, Battier, and Prince.
