Two years ago, Mickael Pietrus stirred up the Warriors' annual Media Day festivities by declaring his desire for a bigger, more important role.

This year, he might stir things again by not showing up at all.

Pietrus is in France without any travel plans as his representatives make their final push for a sign-and-trade deal with the Warriors. The restricted free agent has until Monday to accept the team's qualifying offer of $3.47 million for this season, but plans to exhaust all other options before doing so.

"We're still trying to facilitate a move for Mike, like we have been all summer, that works out for Golden State and Mike," said Happy Walters, one of Pietrus' agents. "If that doesn't work out, we'll address that on Monday with Mike."

Monday is when the rest of the Warriors report to the team's practice facility for Media Day, followed immediately by a charter flight to Hawaii for training camp.

Vice president Chris Mullin says he expects Pietrus to be here with the rest of his teammates and did not believe there would be any hard feelings to smooth over if Pietrus is forced to sign the one-year tender.

"We've had the offer for him, we've had dialogue here and there, so we'll see what happens," Mullin said.

Pietrus, along with Cleveland's Anderson Varejao and Sasha Pavlovic, are the most prominent names left on the market, but as restricted free agents, all three find themselves with little leverage as training camps prepare to open.

The Cavaliers have made it known that they will match any offers for their players, while the Warriors haven't needed to. At this stage in the offseason, Pietrus won't get more money from any other team despite his wishes for a salary closer to the mid-level exception of $5.3 million.

Golden State has the option of taking the qualifying offer off the table once it expires at midnight Oct. 1, after which the team would still retain his rights.

The likeliest outcome has Pietrus resigning with the Warriors by the deadline, though perhaps not joining them until camp in Hawaii.

Asked what would happen if the Warriors continued to reject the sign-and-trade offers that have come their way, Walters stopped short of saying that his client would hold out.

"Anything's possible, but Mike's a team player," Walters said. "He likes the coaches, loves the city. Mike's not the kind of person who's going to do something arbitrarily to be uncool."

While Pietrus is the only unknown in the Warriors' 15-man roster, Mullin still has plenty of decisions to make over the next few weeks. For all the 10 signings, re-signings and contractual buyouts he negotiated this summer, his fall slate will only be filled with more of the same.
