DATELINE: On the bench. Without question, the Warriors get more calls regarding the availability of Pietrus than any other player. There are many reasons for this: -The 23-year-old is seen as being exceptionally talented and ready to take the league by storm. -He'll never be a starter for the Warriors as long as Richardson and Dunleavy are employed. -Golden State has a history of letting good, young talent (remember Gilbert Arenas?) slip away. If Mullin were to extend Dunleavy sooner rather than later, he could then take advantage of the interest in Pietrus to reshape the Warriors' roster now while the team still has some wiggle room under the luxury tax. Ideally, Mullin could attach Fisher to Pietrus and acquire a talented big man like Nene from a Nuggets team that's very much in need of backcourt help. The Warriors then could dip into the free-agent market ? using a combination of their mid-level exception and the trade exception acquired for Cliff Robinson ? and pluck a backup for Davis (perhaps the Wizards' Steve Blake) as well as someone to replace Pietrus' versatility (the Kings' Maurice Evans qualifies). Bottom line: You've acquired Nene, Blake and Evans for Pietrus and Fisher. Suddenly, sacrificing Pietrus in the Dunleavy extension doesn't sound so bad. I think I read this article before. If Dunleavy is cheaper by a lot, then Dunleavy. If Dunleavy ain't a good deal team budget-wise more than Pietrus, Pietrus is the obvious choice. (Assuming Pietrus doesn't break the bank either. Still I think the guy's a near-star potential) I'd go with Pietrus anyway, actually. Air France rules.
OK. Which idiot wrote that article? Yes, that doesn't sound bad, because it's horrible. I. Why in the world do we want to swap Pietrus for Nene? The only reason we can't keep Pietrus is because of financial reason. There is no reason for us to get Nene, who's waiting for an extention one year earlier than Pietrus (and same year with Dunleavy). If we want Nene, it's because we are here to keep Nene, and in order for us to keep Nene, we have to solve the same financial problem we face to keep Pietrus. In addition, Pietrus + Fisher for Nene doesn't match financially, and in order for us to get that deal done, we have to receive the baggage in return. Therefore, our financial woe doesn't go away. Also, Nene sounded good before we drafted Diogu and Taft. 2. He mentioned that Pietrus is exceptionally talented and also mentioned that Warriors has a history of letting talents go. And, he wants to trade Pietrus. Sooo... By letting Pietrus go, he wants to continue our 'glorious' tradition? 3. If we get Blake and Evans, we make already bad financial situation worse. Yes, there will be a problem with Dun-Pietrus in the future. But, by trading Pietrus for somebody, who is in the same financial situation as Pietrus just isn't the answer for this situation...
ROFL Kwan1031: You are the man. The idiot has a first name it's o s c a r, I mean Dave. You nailed it perfectly, the logic in this article is preposterous. Once Dee-fish is gone we'll have plenty of cash for Air France. Bring on the season!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting custodianrules2:</div><div class="quote_post"> Air France rules.</div> Maybe it is time to change your name... On second thought, dont do that. Last time you took your name from a player, they ended up leaving and I dont want Pietrus to leave...
I honestly think Pietrus has star potential, and its only a matter of playing time before he reaches that potential.Trading Pietrus would be....dumb. In my opinion the Warriors should make more room for Pietrus and X Dunleavy. After Pietrus get a chance to develop, the Warriors would have the scariest 1-3 combo in the league...even better than the Nets 1-3.

Last time you took your name from a player, they ended up leaving and I dont want Pietrus to leave... </div> Yeah better not since Boykins... Cardinal... Najera... and now...? I always root for the high energy, underdog type player off the bench that makes an impact on the roster. BTW I read the article now and I think it's different than the one I read about what to do about Dunleavy and Pietrus for our future wing position. Yeah, the comments about dealing Pietrus for Nene doesn't really solve our problems or make a huge sense... Nene's one of these big guys that is a mediocre rebounder, mediocre foul shooter, mediocre midrange jumper, mediocre inside scorer, and mediocre everything. He's a good dunker, very strong and athletic and he can control the ball a little bit in the post, but it's been 4 years almost... That's about the extent of Nene's game. Also, it's hard to trust anything that Denver has drafted that wasn't a no-brainer We need to find some way to retain Pietrus, dump our bloated contracts not named Bdiddy or Jrich. I hope with Pietrus, we get the leverage to either deal or re-sign him, rather than let him walk for nothing while near the luxury tax line. I'd even love it if some team gave us two first round draft picks for him like the Hawks did with Joe Johnson. That's not bad at all. The reason why I think later first round picks are good is because most lotto teams draft so poorly, it leaves all the good players for the stronger teams. The only way it would suck is if the talent in those upcoming drafts are so thin, we'd be better off committing salary to whichever player (Pietrus or Dunleavy) where they'll offer experience, add to team chemistry and the refs know them.

I've had an eye on trade talk here and at realgm awhile-folks want to get Pietrus from us..real bad,and some offers are pretty good. Dunleavy? He really is not on wish lists. He may as well be Eric Williams or Corliss Williamson. Many see him as good bench help-nobody sees him as impact. Dunleavy is like a guy who gets C+ in every class, above average but gets no notice. We have a sense Dunleavy is pretty good but Pietrus was gaining so fast he could shoot past Dunleavy. Fine. The problem is solved. We however keep veering off into a fear that Dunleavy's pricetag will be way up there as if he was a double-double type or a physical freak who plays shutdown D. While Dunleavy is mostly what-you-see-is-what-you-get,he will improve a bit. Maybe he gets $5 million per? I think the W's are talking now, have no reason to offer "Star" money, but don't want to dis MD either. So it goes and he's a potential restricted. Who has the cap room to give him $8 mill per? Maybe 5 teams and they have 15 other FA's higher on their list. Maybe Mike's game suddenly takes off he's passing like Bird,he's hitting 3's like Bird,he's a hot topic everywhere (anything's possible) then it's like the Bulls and Chandler,we hold the cards...but make a crazy offer and we accept. I figure it sorts out, won't have to be an either or situation. Pietrus-I feel, wins the SF starter role, but Dunleavy sticks as a sixth man with a big role.
I wish Dunleavy was like Larry Bird, but that just insults Larry Bird in that any slow, finesse player can draw those comparrisons, just by having guys like Shane Battier, Jason Jay Williams, Carlos Boozer, etc on his team and shooting the lights out at an opportune moment of his collegiate career. We had a team of decent talent, but I don't think he truly made anyone better. Maybe it's because of we don't have the right sort of help at the 4 and 5 spot like the Celtics did in the post like Mchale and defensively like The Chief.

If he can turn into half the shooter of either of those guys then he could easily gain in every major offensive statistical category. Anyone remember how poor Mullin was defensively? Actually, even though he couldn't play anyone 1 on 1 (other than poking the ball loose every now and again) he consistently got into lanes and made a difference. His passing and incredible Shooting and all around basketball IQ is what made him special. Dunleavy will never be half of what Bird was, but he can be a poor man's Mullin. With a solid point guard, a summer of busting his hump, and a consistent building up of his frame, I think he's gonna surprise a lot of people. You can quote me on that.
