I would like to know some of the following:

I see that piling on is an american football rule that earns a team a 15-yard penalty, but doesn't this somewhat take the fun out of it, also what if both teams are involved, then what?, has any one in the NFL recently ever been flagged for piling on, and are there any good football movies out there that actually portray what goes on in pileups, Also if you have pictures of em' can you please post em'

The "piling on" rule is meant to protect players from injury. If you're a 200 lb running back at the bottom of a pile of three or four players trying to recover a fumble, it's generally not a good idea to let 300 lb defensive linemen run up and jump on the pile when they originally weren't involved in the play.

In the past few years, I remember the occasional player getting flagged for it, but no obvious names or bad incidents come to mind.

My Dad played in the late 1950's and he told me an oposing QB used to bite while in a pile of players. Of course that was before facemasks.

I've heard of biting and spitting. Supposedly Bill Romo was notorious for spitting in piles.

I thought piling on was when the players jump on the already tackeled ball carrier, also are there any football movies out there that have pileups?

I was the lucky one on the bottom of a pileup in high school and that shit isn't fun at all. I can't imagine how that would feel in the NFL. You'd wish you were Neo from the Matrix movies.

haha i dont think anyone has ever died from a pile up, there was a funny article in SI a few years ago quoting players about fumble pile ups. A couple of them said that people grabbed and twisted the cash and prizes if u know wat i mean. I'd be scared down there but its part of the game

Lions WR Chuck Hughes was the only NFL player to ever die (Heart Attack) during a game. I remember that day in 1971, I was watching the game with my Dad. I was 9.
