I've read that the Yankees are going to watch Pedro Martinez throw a bullpen session today in the Dominican Republic because they have a scout in the area. I’ve always been in awe of Pedro Martinez ever since I’ve seen him pitch for the Boston Red Sox. Even though he is far from his dominant self like he was in the late 90’s, early 2000’s, I always hold out hope that he’ll some how pitch like that again. In a weird sort of way, I rooted for him. Maybe it’s because he was so talented and I liked watching talent on display or maybe I was a glutton for punishment watching him pitch because he was on the Red Sox. If he was to stand there with a Yankee uniform on, I’d probably be waiting for that devastating changeup he threw mixed in with his 98 mph fastball. I’d probably go watch him play hoping and waiting for him to pitch like his old self. It would never come to reality because he’s older but there’s always that glimmer of hope. He dominated in an era which was dominated by hitters. This begs to ask, PED’s? I wouldn’t be surprised if he took steroids because I’m numb to the whole steroid issue. It seems that every one took them or is taking them. It’s hard to think he didn’t take PED’s because he was dominating the best players on the best teams who were taking steroids. I’ve always thought that there was some natural element to when some one was dominant in their sport. That’s usually not the case. You always have to look at how dominant they are and ask yourself if it’s reasonable. I look at pictures of Tiger Woods now and he looks like a body builder. I think he dominated golf when he was in his 20’s with no help from PED’s but now I’m not so sure. Pedro on the Yankees would be weird. I’m not sure it would look right. He threw at a lot of Yankees especially Derek Jeter so I wonder if they would accept him. I’m sure they would since the team is built on money and they are there playing for the dollar more so than for the team. Pedro in the bull pen is not a bad idea. I’m sure he still knows how to get batters out. He doesn’t have to worry about pitching 100 pitches. I’m sure he can fool three batters without seeing them again the rest of the game. Right? Maybe? Pedro in Pinstripes? It’s more of a far fetched idea because he’s not effective anymore but it’s not bad to dream of a younger Pedro taking the hill once again except on your side.
I don't think the yanks will make that move. I heard so many stories of how much those championship yankee teams hated Pedro. Joe Torrre book talked about Posada barking in spanish at him while pitching in big games. Yanks passed on him when they needed pitching the most, Pedro went to the mets. I did her his fastball was up and he throwing good. Pedro wants that cash 5.5
The Yankees have a solid rotation already and don't need Pedro Martinez adding to the logjam. It doesn't hurt to take a look at him, but the Yankees need to get Hughes back in the mix and figure out what's wrong with Wang.
The problem with Wang is that he has no velocity on his sinking fastball and he leaves it up in the zone.
