Making his first defence of his World Boxing Organization middleweight title after sitting idle since July of last year, WBO champ Dmitry Pirog (18-0, 14 KOs) won an unimpressive 12 round unanimous decision over Argentinean challenger Francisco Maciel (18-2, 12 KOs) on Saturday night in a fight at the DIVS Sports Palace in Ekaterinburg, Russia. The final judges’ scores were 115-112, 117-110, 115-111. The ring rust was apparent early on as the 30-year-old Pirog looked sluggish and failed to throw enough combinations to really dominate an opponent that he should have been able to beat with ease.
