DETROIT (AP) -- Dale Davis signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday, adding depth to their frontcourt.

``He went to the finals once in Indiana, and he's really hoping to get back there with the Pistons,'' agent Chubby Wells said. ``He knows a lot of players on the team and (president of basketball operations) Joe Dumars, so he's really comfortable with the organization from top to bottom.''

Davis has averaged 8.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks with Indiana, Portland and Golden State during his 14-year career.

Behind starters Ben Wallace and Rasheed Wallace, the 6-foot-11, 252-pound center likely will come off the bench after Antonio McDyess and might take away playing time from Darko Milicic.

Dale Davis gives the Pistons another good big man. The Wallaces, Mcdyss and Dale Davis is pretty good, and they got Milicic who might be good in the future.

this is just stupid, there was no point to this signing at all! We dont need Dale Davis! we have enough big men as it is, jesus christ, what is Dumars infactuation with PF/C's? Thats all he ever seems to draft/sign/trade. We need another scoring option! Not another old man at PF/C who will put up 5 a game and a couple of blocks, we need some one who will come off the bench and score points for us, which Michael Finley, Latrell Sprewell or Derek Anderson could've done for us, help backup the SG & SF spots too.

If Darko isnt ever going to get any minutes, can we please just trade him already? I'm sick of a perfectly great pick gone to waste on some one who sits on the bench collecting dust all season, when we could of had Melo, Wade, Bosh, Haslem, J.Howard etc. Stop fucking Darko over already, give the kid a go, let him play, its the only was he'll develop, holding him down each season with old PF/C's on their last legs is just worsening him as a player. He showed what he can do at the end of last season, let him do it already.

This signing does a couple of things

Gives the Pistons another big body to guard Shaq. A guy who can play more minutes than soup was able to. It also means Ben Wallace shouldn't have to play as many minutes.

2nd reason is It makes the Pacers weaker inside. They were already thin inside and now they lose basically their best center and a guy who was huge for them to end the season.

Doesn't help Darko one bit though.
