Pistons set to name Michael Curry head coach
    by The Associated Press
    Monday June 09, 2008, 3:34 PM
Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars tells The Associated Press Michael Curry will be the team's next coach.

Dumars tells the AP Curry will be introduced at a news conference on Tuesday. The team sent out a release Monday afternoon saying the new coach would be announced at that news event, but did not reveal his identity.

Curry agreed to a three-year deal worth $2.5 million a year guaranteed with the team holding the option for a fourth season.

He replaces Flip Saunders, who was fired last week. Curry served as an assistant on Saunders' staff and is a former Piston.

Curry could not immediately be reached for comment on his cell phone Monday afternoon.

Michael Curry is one of few good guys in sports, I just dont know if being a good guy will help this team...

I've learned to become really skeptical of former players turning into coaches. I suppose Curry wouldn't have as daunting a task with a veteran team like the Pistons, but Dumars will still have to surround him with some quality assistants.

One thing it's hard to say about Dumars is that he's stupid. I would give Curry the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

Like Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan? [IMG]

But yea, I don't know how long Curry has been learning, but I'd question if he is ready to be a head coach.
