<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>AUBURN HILLS, Mich. ? Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that the team has signed Terry Porter as an assistant coach. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. ?We are pleased to add Terry Porter to our coaching staff,? said Dumars. ?Terry was a fierce competitor during his playing days and he has excelled as both a head coach and assistant coach in this league. We feel his experience is a good fit for our team.? Porter enters his first season as an assistant coach with the Pistons after serving as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks for two seasons (2003-05). He led the Bucks to a 41-41 record in his first season (2003-04) and a first-round playoff berth. During his two seasons as head coach, the Bucks compiled a record of 71-93 and a 50-32 mark when playing at the Bradley Center. ?I?m excited about the opportunity that Joe Dumars and Flip Saunders have given me,? said Porter. ?The Pistons are a championship organization and I look forward to working with the players and coaching staff.? Porter spent the 2002-03 season as an assistant coach with the Sacramento Kings, his first season in coaching after a distinguished 17-year NBA playing career with Portland, Minnesota, Miami and San Antonio. Porter?s teams compiled a remarkable record of 815-547 (.598) during his career and only once failed to make the postseason. In 1,274 career games, Porter averaged 12.2 points, 5.6 assists and 1.24 steals during a career that included two All-Star berths (1991, 1993), two trips to the NBA Finals (1990, 1992) and 15,586 career points. He is 10th on the NBA?s all-time assist list (7,160). Porter signed as a free agent with the Minnesota prior to the 1995-96 season. Coached by Flip Saunders, he helped the Timberwolves achieve their first-ever playoff berth in 1996-97 and their first winning season the following year.</div> Sidney Lowe's replacement. I'm excited for this former point guard to join and coach.
I loved Terry Porter as a player and this should only help the Pistons. I wish Terry Porter the best of luck, certainly a quality individual.
Really? How can you tell?We lost Sidney Lowe, a really great and quality assistant coach, to NC State basketball, but I think Porter will step in well.
First he trades a solid back up wing player (and alleged Flip spy) in Mo Evans to force more PT for Delfino & now an assistant who could be a head coach for many teams. Translation: Dumars has a plan B.
No offense guys, but Flip is terrible. Let him coach a team without the likes of KG, Rip, or Sheed and see how he fairs....

He would have no star player! That makes no sence....Porter got a raw deal getting the boot in Milwaukee and will be a great addition to the Pistons coaching staff. I am excited to see what he brings to the table.
