"The Tigers were behind 1-0 all day Saturday until Brennan Boesch, Scott Sizemore and Andy Dirks - none of whom are guaranteed a spot on the opening-day roster - delivered three straight hits in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Dirks' two-run triple gave the Tigers a 2-1 exhibition victory against the Atlanta Braves, but Boesch's hit off Arodys Vizcaino might have been the most meaningful of the hits.

"I'd never seen that guy before and he had some pretty good stuff. I looked up and I think he hit 99 (mph) against me. He was bringing a pretty firm fastball," Boesch said. "I think you have to have the right mind set, which I think I did, which was try and take a nice easy swing and not try to do too much."

    Manager Jim Leyland agrees.

"Boesch fighting that guy off, getting him 3-2 and then getting one in there, that started the inning obviously," Leyland said. "I like the way he battled his (butt) off there and got on base. That's very big. I thought it was a great at bat.""
