Playing Favorites

I hate how big games have been ruined by a bad call cuz it seems like the ref favors the home team and wut not. Like the AFC Championship between Oak and NE, OAk would have won the game but nooooooooooo Brady got the call to his favor and wut did they do? Win. And go on to win the super bowl! That could have been Oakland. Post what you feel about this or games uyou feel have been ruled like this

and ill give you that hit by Breston and PEppers Bucker on McNabb this past NFCCG, late hit, unnecessary roughness on the QB, and should have been called. If i recall corectly we were in scoring range, at about the 40 and that killed our drive

also the fog bowl, i never seen it live, but i saw the replay on ESPN Classic awhile ago, the playoff(i think) game the Eagles lost at Solidier, and Bears you gotta admit that game should have never been played under those weather situations

i have some others, but ill let uz give them because their not my team.

 

The NFL unlike MLB is not afraid to make changes. They implimented instant replay to limit the number of bad calls. The play u refer to was reviewed by the officials. And to this day I still defend their decision. Now we've won another Super Bowl so my passion for this argument isn't as strong. Argue with the rule not those that enforce it. To suggest that the refs were playing favorites is just silly.

 

how about hte leaping rule last year on MNF, Bucs-COlts, most rediculous call ever even tho i was happy to see the bucs blow it.

 

I can still remember way back on week 16 of '02 season a BS holding call on the Steelers FG block team that negated a Gramatica FG which would have advanced me into the fantasy SB of my $ league 2 years ago. lol I won the title last year though so I'm over it.

 

First, the "tuck rule" was called within the rules (bad rule in my opinion, but called correctly in that framework). Second, the "late hit" wasn't late because there wasn't a whistle. No matter how many times you say it Dawk, the hit wasn't late if the whistle wasn't blown. If the whistle had blown then the play would have been dead... If Brady hadn't managed to almost not throw the ball the play wouldn't have been dead. Would'a could'a should'a in both cases, but the end result is that fans of onetema were alot happier than fans of the other team.

BTW, THE RAIDERS had every chance to win that game since they got the ball back with time on the clock. It's a bitch, but I'm dealing with it.

Bad calls are a matter of perspective. A call that you find bad may not be thought of as bad by a fan of your opponent's team. I am hardpressed to find a Pats fan that doesn't know that that New England got a break on the call, but that didn't decide the game. You want passion from fans directed at ref's.? Try a hockey game.

What you (nflfan04) are suggesting is that the officials are cheating, or that the entire game is rigged. Why watch or get emotional about it?

 

im not sayin its literally rigged... but i think that when its a close game and the ref wants a certain team to win.... every once in a while, they will calla bad flag or make a bad call, im not sayin its rigged

 

There are a few teams who through the years have seemed to get the shaft more late in games more times than the others. Holding calls that likely didn't affect the play are the most obvious calls that make people feel that way.

I was only commenting on your saying that the refs are usually playing favorites. That made me think that you were saying that the refs want to control who wins.

That is just plain dumb. They try to call what they see, sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get wrong.

Most of the time opposing coaches or players will tell refs to keep an eye on certain things. Which is probably what happened with the leaping call in the Bucs and Colts game.

If you watch the game with your head instead of your heart you will realize the refs do more than a decent job in getting the right call.

But like I said before, that is plain dumb to say refs play favorites.

 

but thats why they made instant replay... i understand that if its not clear... but some of the bad calls they make are rediculous

 

All I have to say about the tuck rule is you still had 8 more plays on that drive to stop us and overtime so come on that play didn't end the game....and it was called correctly even if the rule sucks.

PATS37, if the play was ruled like it should have been, itd been Raiders ball. Plus the only reason Pats win playoffs is they always have homefield advantage and always have snow. Make em build a damn dome and crack the air to like 80

 

I have to agree to some extent that refs to play favorites, however, I don't think they purposely make bad calls. Sometimes they may not like a player or a team and that can influence what they see.

For example, let's look at Randy Moss. It doesn't matter if you like him or hate him, he has become a target of the refs. He has also brought a lot of this on himself by doing stupid things such as squirting them with water.

Last season, Randy Moss got more offensive intereference calls than any other WR, and more than Ward, Harrison, TO, and Holt combined, yet all these receivers are physical receivers. Was it that Randy Moss was really interfering more than the others? Tape says, no, but its what the refs see.

In the end, though, refs are a part of the game. I believe they do the best they can. Just as the weather can give one team an advantage the refs can make bad calls which impact a game...its part of life.

 

The rule was called as it should have been. Blame the NFL rules commitee not the Patriots. That is why it is called home field advantage! Win more games and your team will have the advantage. Don't forget the Patriots still had to go play Pittsburgh IN Pittsburgh for the AFC Championship and still won that game. Next they played the Super Bowl against the mighty Lambs in a dome with the temp. around 80 and won that game. Your post doesn't make sense Eco.
