I think everyone knows what will probably happen to the Custodian since we got Cliff Robinson and Troy Murphy in front of him. It's too bad because I've always felt that he was the one player that made everyone around him better with his skills, hustle, aggressiveness and great attitude. Even though he was undersized and slow, his hustle and doing all the little things that don't show up on the stat sheet were invaluable to the team. And those kind of role players that do that are hard to find. But I think if we kept Brian he would be a good safey net if Cliff decides to sign with another team after next year. Then if we draft a rookie pf (most likely a power forward who is probably only 18 since most big men prospects are entering young) the Custodian might be able to contribute at the 4 position and also provide that spark which is so contagious out on the floor. He can play the 3 position if zone defense is tight enough to keep out isolations.

We let one fan favourite in Earl slip away, we can't let another one go. [IMG]

Resigning Brian Cardinal should be a priority

Hopefully Mullin is Smart Enough to Realize this!!!

It depends on how much we will have to spend on him. If someone else out there offers him a lengthy contract like Denver did with Boykins we could lose him.

And Moves like that have made the Warriors a laughing stock in the NBA for years...don't get offened by that comment..just my opinion

But with the New Leadership the Warriors have now...i think freeing up some cash might help out the team, and i think resigning Cardnial is a start

I just think the guy deserves to be re-signed because he is a positive to the team. He gets the rest of the team to work harder when he's out there. You could give him the same amount Denver gave Boykins and I'd be happy.

he's definetly worth the effort to resign him back...if not, wouldn't mind him being a King..LOL

Brian has done a lot of good things for the Warriors this year,it would be ashamed to see another warrior leaving for greener pastures, and being a bigger star [IMG]

Hopefully The Warriors will resign him!!

LOL. I don't know if Cardinal could be a star player on another team, but he is one of those extremely good role players to have on your team that makes the rest of your players better. And although the cap is an issue, you should give him a fair amount for what he sacrifices his body for. I'd actually rather him more than some other players on the warrior roster.

The Warriors resurrected his career, and hopefully it plays a big factor when they re-negotiate. It's a win-win situation for Cardinal, the Warriors, and most importantly the fans, if they bring him back. He bring a lot of energy and knows how to play within his role. I'm sure he's a great player to go against in practices as well and will only push Murphy to be an even better player. Most of the Warriors moves will revolve around their ability to bring back Dampier.

Yeah we also can't lose our biggest shotblocker and rebounder Erick Dampier. Hopefully he can be an allstar with the warriors if he stays.

Also with Cardinal he won't be one to throw a fuss about playing time. Plus he is ready to contribute anytime even after he sits a couple games. Plus he's a tough mofo.

Watch, Cardinal will follow Musselman wherever he goes because he's earned Muss' trust. Cardinal was a joy to watch but the numbers game will get to him because he's a free agent and the max the Warriors can offer, given they are over the cap, is the $4.5 mid-level exception, which may be less than Cardinal is given, that's what happened with Boykins.

NVE could be moved or Damp could opt out so that could always be possibilities. I'm just saying we need to keep the players that make the team work. Remember when Cardinal got less minutes, the warriors become more disorganized? We really don't have anyone willing to do the aggressive play or dirtywork except for maybe a healthy Murphy, Pietrus, or a healthy Claxton diving for loose balls or taking charges.

Cardinal personifies what it means to be a "Musselman guy." He hustles and has more heart than just about every other guy in the league. The problem is that once Musselman goes, any playing time Cardinal may have gotten next year will probably leave with him. Any coach Mullin hires will have to play Dunleavy and Murphy big minutes. And, as long as Robinson is around and Pietrus is also getting minutes at sf, Cardinal is going to be squeezed out of the rotation.

I'd like to see Cardinal come back, but I don't think its a must. I'd be just as happy if he got a three year deal with another team in the 6-8 mil range. Cardinal is the type of blue collar guy that makes an NBA team work, but I just don't see him getting much playing time on a healthy Warriors roster next year.

Actually, I look at him exactly the same way that I looked at Boykins last off season. If he resigns with the Warriors on the cheap, great. If he signs a big deal with another team, that's fine, I'll always root for him. If he signs a long term deal with the Warriors just to sit on the bench, well, that's probably not the best situation for Cardinal or the Warriors.

Where ever Cardinal goes, the Custodian faithful will follow. He's made fans all over the place just playing hard. A guy like Cardinal will be loved anywhere he plays, even at the playground...

I hope the Warriors see the importance of a hustle, and crowd-pleasing player. Cardinal is invaluable, and I think he'll be more prepared for the upcoming season if the W's sign him as soon as they can. He faded a little in the end because he just wasn't used to playing so much.

I think Cardinal will follow Musselman elsewhere if Musselman is hired in the offseason. He was the only coach who was willing to give Cardinal a chance and the loyalty will be there.

Yeah most likely that is what will happen unless other coaches are excited to make him the first guy off the bench. Well at least we still have two or three other hustle players if we can resign foyle. Claxton and Murph are pretty good about fighting for every posession. And foyle is just a maniac running down the court, his defender didn't think a 6'10, 250 lb guy could run down the court like that.

    Cardinal's Future

I think you're totally off base to think the Cardinal will follow Musselman. That's ludicrous. Cardinal will go where he thinks he has the best long-term opportunity to play for the most money. There are plenty of coaches and GMs out there who would recognize the value he gives (including, hopefully, Mullin). Musselman only played him because he had no choice, and, at least early in the season, reluctantly.

But there's also other coaches out there that might feel compelled to start bigger power forwards and quicker small forwards over him. And you're right that Musselman stopped going to him when Murphy came back into the lineup. Brian's been begging to play in the 4th quarters and I know he's going to be the guy who can hit some buzzer beaters if left wide open. He's shown he's capable of hitting some based on the season. But if the guy is contested, he's not as athletic enough to create his own shot or tall enough to shoot over the defender. Nontheless, he's a guy who has been consistent except for the time he got a broken nose and had to wear that mask. Ask Rip Hamilton how ucomfortable that mask feels.

Following Musselman and going where there is the best long-term opportunity to play for the most money are not mutually exclusive. In fact, Cardinal will probably find them all with the same team.

My guess is with Atlanta or Orlando.

I'm going to root for him wherever he goes. It's like Bill Curley. You just never forget the warrior's best journey men.
