<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Monta Ellis has come far in his journey to become a legitimate NBA point guard. But there's still a ways to go. That much was proved Saturday, when Ellis turned the ball over eight times, one off his season worst, and notched just two assists in 28 minutes during the Warriors' 99-98 win over the Seattle SuperSonics. After a long run of successfully reining in his propensity for coughing up the ball, Ellis has committed 24 over his last five games, against 23 assists. That includes four turnovers and four assists in the Warriors' 104-100 loss to Utah on Tuesday. "That's as bad as he's played, at both ends of the floor, in a long, long time," Warriors coach Don Nelson said of the Seattle game. "We've been trying to teach him all year, be under control. In the last two games, he had two plays were he just lowered his head, went in there and ran (a defender) over. I wonder if I'm getting my point across when those kind of things happen at this time of year. "He's got to be more alert than that. He's doing a lot of great things, but he gets so single-minded (on scoring) sometimes." Lucky No. 7? For all this talk about chasing the eighth seed in the Western Conference playoffs, don't count out the Warriors in the race for seventh position. As of Tuesday morning, Golden State was effectively four games behind the Denver Nuggets, owners of that No. 7 spot. But as hard as the Warriors' remaining schedule is, the Nuggets' may be even more daunting. Thirteen of Denver's final 18 games are on the road, although the Nuggets picked up a critical 94-90 win over the New Jersey Nets on Tuesday in East Rutherford. And on Nelson's favorite "plus-minus" gauge, which is calculated by subtracting home losses from road wins, the Warriors' rating of minus-2 matches that of the Nuggets. Perhaps to keep his team from losing focus, Nelson shot down any discussion of the seventh spot. "Maybe I have way too much respect for them, but I just don't see Denver or the Lakers slipping and being part of the (race for the No.) 8 spot," Nelson said. "I just don't see it."</div> Source
Ellis is a point guard? Woah, when did that happen? There's no way this guy is a point guard yet. He's combo all the way. He's a good guy to have if you have at least 6'5 ballhandling shooting guard that can shoot, pass, create like a T-mac, Joe Johnson, Kobe, Ray Allen, Dwade, Larry Hughes, or what Doug Christie used to do.
Yeah, it seems like Ellis is committing a lot of offensive fouls when he's picking up those turnovers. It's something that he has to work on and get over.
