Also, my Denver buddy and i went over drafts of the last 20 years a few weeks back. Some Drafts were incredibly awful. The 2002 Draft with Yao Ming was one of those. Only 2 players ( Ming, Amare Stoudemire) were real stars. A few real good players ( Boozer, Caron Butler) . But no real star power. Dreadful draft.
No one person will likely make us a contender. We'll need to get somebody at lower value than they have been at in a couple years. Keep Sharpe, trade Ant and the pick. Get a player better than Jeremy Grant (preferably a PF). That should get us close. Then Dame needs to start recruiting. Guys are going to have to come here ring chasing. We've got 2-ish years to make a go of it without trading our future. Will any of these draft picks make us better than we are now with Dame (when we aren't tanking)? Maybe, maybe not.
Gets us close enough to keep Dame happy. We don't have to be a shoo-in to win the whole thing. Dame just wants a punchers chance, IMO. Ant, 5 (we likely won't have the 5, but whatever that pick ends up being), and some 2nd rounders, or maybe the other first rounder should get you close to Siakam (now that the Raps flamed out). I think we probably could have gotten Randle for MUCH less than that last year. Might be somebody else like that. There are guys like that available every year. Maybe even a center to replace Nurk. We need to get one or two more guys of JG or better quality (or at least potential). We need to trade some of our tradeable contracts to teams looking to shed salary. Take some chances on some guys, and if it's not working next season, blow it up and go young.
We'd be in the playoffs if we had him this season. We'll certainly make it next season if we add him now. He may be a headcase, but I've been told we have one of the best leaders in the NBA.
He’s made the playoffs 1 time before this year. He’s a name though, like I’m afraid of. He also holds the damn ball
I agree, not near enough value. This trade idea seems to be on the low end on what I would expect the league to be offering. Far too low on what I would be willing to trade Dame for. This is the catch on trading him.
In another thread, I'm discussing Dame to Toronto for FVV/Barnes/23 lotto pick (if they want to "go for it" with Siakam). I could then see flipping FVV to Miami for Robinson/Jovic. Maybe picks too since Robinson contract sucks.
You said the below not long ago in another thread; "Dame makes $4m/year more than Ruby Gobert, who got traded for young talent and a bunch of firsts just a year ago. No clue how you could call him untradable." He is untradable because he is a short, aging ball dominant pg with no defense that will make $250 mil over next 4 seasons. An offer of Herro, a sg that we have two of, a dreadful contract and garbage picks. No Bam, that is the kind of offers Portland will be getting for Dame. I just need to sit back and watch. Posters thinking we can get a haul for Dame is laughable with his contract and other negatives mentioned. Whatever, I'll just lurk here. Go Blazers!
Rather see if Simons/Nurk/Toronto pick and Knicks pick is enough to get Bam. Imagine getting #2, taking Scoot, and adding Bam. Scoot Sharpe Barnes Grant Bam.
Dame wants a shot at a championship. What team could give equal value for Dame and still be a contender? Would need a third team involved, but yeah. Dame isn't going anywhere.
