Poor Mavs fans. Devin Harris is lighting them up for 26 at halftime.

They must be horrified. Letting Nash go and now Harris?

Harris is completely dominating. He has been on fire.

Maybe he read your posts about Brandon Roy and wants to score 53 tonight. Who knows.

Dallas has a terrible gm. When i the last time they had a good 1st round pick? Howard was nice, but has apparently forgot how to play. They had their chance in 06 but choked.

You could've argued that Dallas needed to do something last year since they weren't going to win it all with Devin Harris or not. And certainly Charles and them were constantly talking about how they needed Kidd.

But it hasn't happened. They start Devean George.... who's flat out terrible. Dirk's hit his ceiling, and we know he can't lead. Kidd gets older by the day, and Howard is good but was made out to look pretty dumb this summer.
They're stuck in a rut now unless they want to blow it up.

That was like 5 years ago and the only reason they were in position to make that pick was due to trade..Jamison to Was for the #5 pick.
I mean the Spurs draft EXCELLENT at their position, Dallas, not so much. Up to this point in time, it was a bad trade in retrospect. Jamison is a damn good player.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I'd say that it looked like a reasonable trade as early as 2006-07, when he was a promising young point guard. A young point guard with promise is worth a lot. Last year, it was clearly a win as Harris was turning into a good point guard.

Now, it's a landslide win. Of course, the Mavericks have offset that fantastic deal and pick by trading him for a declining Kidd.

The Harris-Kidd trade must be one of the worst trades in recent history. Harris is emerging as an elite point guard while Kidd is showing his age with his declining game.

If you actually watched the game, you'd realize that it's not necessarily Kidd's age that's causing him to decline, drastically.

Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol?...Shaquille O'Neal to the Heat for Brian Grant, Lamar Odom and Caron Butler?...Trail Blazers traded the rights to Randy Foye to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the rights to Brandon Roy?( Bad for Minny).

I didn't watch the game. What's causing his decline, then? The coaching?

The Harris/Kidd trade SHOULD make the play-off slots already settled this year, at least in terms of who will make it.

I just don't see Dallas keeping up with Lakers, Spurs, Hornets, Jazz, Nuggets, Suns, Rockets, or the Blazers barring major injury issues to Roy, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, or Carmelo Anthony.

Pretty much the #8 seed is the position to stay away from at this point.

More or less. The Mavs are once again implementing Avery Johnson's offensive style. This is causing Kidd to be very ineffective, especially on half court sets. Basically, he runs the ball up court, passes it Dirk, Howard, Terry (whoever comes off screen), and waits on the perimeter while they go 1-on-1. As a result, Kidd looks ineffective.

Obviously you can say that age is gaining up on Kidd, and he can't run around for 48 minutes, but realize he barely has control of the game this way. He's got a leash on him, just like Devin Harris had when he was in Dallas.

Good point about the first 2 trades. I forgot about them, but those 2 trades were about cost savings. Grizzlies wanted an expiring, so they accepted a lot less talent for future financial flexibility. Same with the Shaq trade, as Shaq wanted more money, while the Lakers weren't willing to pay. So those teams knew they were getting less talent back, but the Mavericks thought the Harris-Kidd trade would push them over the top. They thought Kidd would make them a better in the short term. But seeing how Harris has blown up this year and just entering his prime, it looks like they made a grave miscalculation. Harris would have been better now and in the future.

Josh Howard, Devin Harris and Brandon Bass were all good picks considering where they were drafted. I'd argue that Barea was a good pickup as well.

Brandon Bass is one of the most overrated players in the history of this board and BBF.

He "went off" for 2 pts, 2 rebounds, and 2 TOs tonight while his team got killed by the Nets.

He's better than Ike Diogu and a better fit than Frye.
