Ian O'Connor of ESPNNY.com writes that the New York Knicks must trade forward Amar'e Stoudemire, which at first seems like an impossible task. But he works things through with a "high-ranking executive of a playoff team" and winds up including the Portland Trail Blazers on a list of teams that might be willing to "gamble" on the NBA's Most Valuable Fire Extinguisher Inspector.

I dont see us ever doing that but who knows with portland. what do you guys think of that?

Once again, it's a shitty move, but it fits in with this teams thought of retooling.

Trade Matthews, a re-signed Batum and probably both lottery picks for Amare (way too much, I know, but I think that would be the price). Then sign DWill

    DWill
    Aldridge
    Amare

That would be the starting point. It would never win, but be good enough to make a lot of the fan base happy

Not winning was meant as in championships.

Then we could re-sign Felton and hire Mike D'Antoni! And be a shitty West Coast Knicks!

It would be awesome. Win a ton in the regular season and get our asses handed to us in the playoffs

how can you honestly say having deron williams LA and amare wouldnt win? that could very well be a title contender... you guys ( especially mediocre man) are serious pessimists. what else would you want?? i think your judgement of NBA basketball is mediocre. i think deron batum and LMA would take you a long way. deron williams is the best point gaurd in basketball

Championship teams typically have a guy (like Kobe, Duncan, Dirk) who arguably is the best player in the league.

Amare, LMA, and DWill are really good, but aren't in the "best player" discussion.

gimme a break, the price would be batum, matthews and 2 lotto picks. He's overpaid and doesn't fit their team, and you think they'd demand that. Oh, maybe this is just one of those times you're fucking with people. Tough to tell.

Not pessimistic on this issue at all. I also think I have a pretty good handle on what wins basketball games, not saying you don't though. IMO, Amare doesn't make anyone around him better, and will require shots. He and LA play the same style of game too, and wouldn't compliment each other very well. Neither are good defensive players, leaving only Batum, if we somehow held on to him by adding those two as you lone defender. Teams also don't generally win with a ball dominating PG. Again, just my opinion

I don't see Stou_emire ever winning anything. Not to mention he and LMA would be constantly running into each other as they have such similar games. Spacing would be bad and you would just go downhill from there. I think it would end up being a lot like taking on Kemp at the end of his career.

You don't think it would take that to get Amare? Like I said, I think it is really overpayment, but I think that's what it would be. If it weren't, Amare would eat up all of the cap space, and we would then have no PG still

I'm not saying I would do it at all, but no, I think that is WAY off from what it would take. I think they'd be happy to be rid of him and the 66 million owed to him, and would likely do it for next to nothing. Not even close to 2 lotto picks and 2 legit players.

So then you add Amare and have no cap room left for a PG? Does that make us better?

Getting Amare is pointless without a PG.

Kind of surprised this thread has went as far as it has

Chad has said this team needs a PG first, then a C. Amare is neither.
