In the interview, on this news page, it appears that Clinton Portis and Chris Samuels see nothing wrong with the suffering that dogs endure in dog fights, they are Vick's property and people should mind their own business. They have since recanted. You would think that a couple of guys, who are so bad that they fight dogs, would have a set between the two of them and stand up for what they believe in. I wonder who they caught hell from. The Redskins front office? Mama? Fans? All of the above? http://www.dailypress.com/sports/dp-41046s...dp-sports-local

I belive this isn't the publics business, Its Vicks employers business THE NFL and the laws and vicks business and thats all.. I just found a very good friend of mine just committed a murder in boise and admitted it.. and i feel the same way.. Its no ones business but the laws, hers, and her family, and the victims family.. other then that despite all the publicity its getting i feel its none of their business

The shallow celebrity obsessed busybodies need something to do now that American Idol is over, but, enough about the whores of media.
I'll have to politely disagree. I don't think a person can break our society's laws and then hide behind it's "none of your business." That's how the Catholic Church tried to deal with their some of their pedophile priests and we all saw how that turned out. More victims. I think the potential for public scorn should be used as a tool to deter crime. If Michael Vick's name in the headlines everyday is the reason that other professional athletes decide they had better get out of the dogfighting game, then that's fine with me. I don't care if that's the only reason they quit.
In the spirit of a Don Henley song, the media or your neighbors go digging for or obsess over Someone else's Dirty Laundry. Its pathetic and shows a lack of class. I can't speak for B#1F but there is something to be said for privacy, decency, tact, & common sense. Its all depends on a need to know basis when its harmful to the masses like the Catholic church example Dale used then it should be made known. The Vick dog fighting incident is towing the line between journalism & sensationalism IMO. Its yet another example of media knocking someone off the pedestal they put them on initiallly. Portis' commentary is just fodder for the tabloids.

The catholic church and the priest i get public has that every right to know.. But dog fighting come on this is between vick, the law and the league.. I doubt someones life is ruined forever over dog fighting.. other then the criminal.. so to compare the catholic priests to vicks dog fighting is not a very good comparison
I was just talking about crime in general. I don't care what the crime is. Crime affects society in a negative way to various degrees. If one of Michael Vick's dog got loose and killed someone, would that make a difference? I won't say that shame is 100% effective as a deterrent to crime, but I do think it's a deterrent. This isn't happening to Michael Vick because he is a poor, innocent victim of fate. The cops discovered it while searching the house for drugs. I will concede that it wouldn't be as big a story without Michael Vick's name, but he should have known that would be a draw back to a career in the spotlight. That's the tradeoff for making millions of dollars. Personally, I'm getting tired of sports channels defending criminal athletes and smoothing over what they have done as though it were a misunderstanding or no big deal. There are 60+ dogs that are going to die in addition to the suffering they have already endured. Tax money is going out to pay for the housing of the dogs and the time of ALL the law enforcement officials have spent on this case. And Michael Vick deserves privacy over this matter? I don't agree.

Crimes are broken down i.e Misdemeanor vs Felony. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DolfanDale)</div><div class='quotemain'>I will concede that it wouldn't be as big a story without Michael Vick's name, but he should have known that would be a draw back to a career in the spotlight.</div> There's no such thing as bad publicity? <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DolfanDale)</div><div class='quotemain'>Personally, I'm getting tired of sports channels defending criminal athletes and smoothing over what they have done as though it were a misunderstanding or no big deal.... Let me further illustrate this; Bernard Goldberg was on Fox News recently (Shocking as it is I will watch the voice of evil occasionally) discussing a poll on Muslims thoughts on terrrorism. He stated that the media would focus on the fact the 25% that condone suicide bombing rather 75% who don't. Bottom line; Bad news sells. It's like Eric Bischoff's book <u>Controversy creates cash.</u>
