It's strange they'd include Bethesda as a stand-alone city. It would be akin to singling out Lake Oswego as a city separate from Portland. Should this be about metro areas?
Before the economic hell fell upon the country Portland was in the middle of a boom in terms of buildings. Park Ave. West - 515-ft John Ross tower - 325-ft 3720 tower - 325-ft Mirabella tower - 325-ft Meriwether tower 1 - 21 stories Meriwether tower 2 - 24 stories First and Main - 251-ft The Alexan - 250-ft ZGF tower- 250-ft Ladd Tower - 225-ft OHSU So Waterfront - 16 stories 937 tower - 175-ft the Encore - 175-ft the Cyan - 175-ft Westerly - 150-ft Waterfront Pearl - 100-ft Waterfront Pearl 2 - 100-ft The Pearl has too many to list. ALL of these were built within the last 2-3 years. There's plenty of modern architecture going up.
If architects could make another building that molds well with the OHSU tram I bet the skyline there would look a lot better in the southwest waterfront development. You can only do so much with square buildings. Mix it up like the pointed building in this photo or the copper one. I think the planning commission is doing a decent job of getting more apartments and condos in the Pearl district.
Dang. You mean I can buy a porno, rent a hooker, get some booze, hook up with some meth and fall asleep under an oily sleeping under a bridge next to the river, and you'll cover everything? This time I'm getting the blond whore without scabies!
