I was wondering what Blazers fans thought about this trade idea.

    New York trades:

PF Othella Harrington (4.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 0.5 apg in 15.6 minutes)
    C Dikembe Mutombo (5.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 0.4 apg in 23.0 minutes)
    C Kurt Thomas (11.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 1.9 apg in 31.9 minutes)

    New York receives:

    PF Shareef Abdur-Rahim (16.3 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.0 apg in 31.6 minutes)

Change in team outlook: -5.0 ppg, -10.7 rpg, and -0.8 apg.

Why Portland does this? They dont need Reef, and this trade would allow them to get a very helpfull Kurt Thomas. Kurt Thomas is a great back up when either Theo or Randolph sits down, he plays good defense and can also put a few points on the board with his sweet mid range jump shot. He's not a young budding talent but he is very consistant and you know what your getting from hmi, he could be the veternto really help the BLazers. They also get Othella harrginton (an expiring contract), and the get Deke another expiring contract who could actually help a little bit. With deke the Blazers would really get some more help on defense, although he can only really give about 10 mintues a game, they can be really affective.

Why NY does this trade? They get Reef, youner and more atheletic than Kurt Thomas. NY losses the expiring contracts of Harrginton and Deke, but who cares we arent trying to get under the cap this century.

Is this a horrible trade for Portland, or a fair trade for Portland? Does Portland want a star for Reef or would they settle for a solid player and cap relief?

hmm...This trade will give the blazers, 4 centers(Theo, Mumtobo, Dale Davis, Stepina). 3 powerfowards(Zach, Randolph, Kurt Thomas, Otella Harrighton). Dude you are trying to slipt the 20 mintues Shareef uses for 3 players. Especially when Kurt Thomas, a player that whines about mintues, im 100 % sure that Kurt, not like Shareef, will complain about mintues. The blazers want to trade Shareef away because they feel bad of wasting him, so why would they trade for more player to the benches. Just like you said earlier <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Why NY does this trade? They get Reef, youner and more atheletic than Kurt Thomas.</div> Reef is better than Kurt, so what is the point of trading three bench players for one good player. Good thinking.

Well, Kurt is more suited for coming off of the bench and is better defensivley. While adding Kurt they also get two expiring contracts. Reef is a good player but he's not a superstar. Sure Portland would have more cap space by just letting Reefs contract run out, but they would lose him without getting anything of value in return. Kurt THomas is a seasoned vet, with lots of Playoff expireince, has simliar numbers to what reef has last season (minus 5 ppg), I think he would really workout in Portland. Plus Dale Davis and Stephonia only have one year remaining on there contracts. If Portland lets there contracts run out they have more cap room, or they could try some sort of trade to get someone who could really help out them out right now, plus they would have Harrington (9.7 million dollar cap relief) and Deke (13.6 million dollar cap relief), along with Dale Davis and Stephonia, that like 55 million dallar freed up or that they have to make deals happen. All this and they Keep Kurt Thomas who is really a nice addition to any team.

Well, they will use that 55 million to resign Zach and Ratliff, but the blazers will get somebody better than Kurt Thomas. Blazers does not need any more big guys. They need better guards. Like we said, Shareef is a better player, the blazers will not let go of Shareef next season. They will trade him away this year. Im 100% sure. Plus there are rumors that the blazers might trade with Chicago for their 3rd pick. I personly think that 3rd pick overall is much better than Kurt Thomas.

I feel you, if you can get the 3rd pick then ofcourse you get that for Reef, but if I were Chicago I would definetely use that third pick instead of getting Reef. Luol Deng could turn out to be better than any big man that chicago has right now, and Ben Gordon or Josh Smith could turn out to be better for Chicago than Reef could, plus they have more youth, doesnt sound like a good move for Chicago.

Also can you even trade a player with a contract like Shareefs for just a pick? Isnt that a big difference in salary? Wont chicago have to throw in players to match up the salaries? Im not sure on that one, but if Porland can do it then more power to them.

Come on just hand over Shareef no questions asked, please?

anyways I heard about this one on another board (http://mb3.theinsiders.com/fnewyorkknicksf...icID=2937.topic) and thought I would see what others thought about it. Thanks for your opinoins.
