Trail Blazers trade Steve Blake, Channing Frye and Sergio Rodriguez for Hedo Turkoglu and Anthony Johnson While neither Blake nor Rodriguez is a star, they are solid players who would give Orlando an instant point guard rotation. (Blake is currently out with his own shoulder injury, but he's expected to return with a week.) Rodriguez has more upside than Blake, but he's younger and more erratic as well. Both players could come off the books for the Magic next year -- meaning no long-term hit on their cap. Just as important would be the acquisition of Frye, whose size and rebounding ability would give the Magic some much needed help on their front line. The cost would be high for the Magic. Turkoglu's been solid and sometimes spectacular for the Magic the past two seasons. But they have enough talented wing players, particularly Mickael Pietrus and Courtney Lee, to fill the shoes of Turkoglu, who is a risk to opt out of his contract and leave Orlando this summer anyway. The Blazers have been looking for a small forward, and Turkoglu would be a good, low-risk option. Portland might have to pay him to keep him, but a trade now would give the team a few months to see how he fits as he contributes to the Blazers' drive to make some noise in the playoffs this spring.
Hard to imagine trading Blake and Sergio. I guess that would mean they have a whole lot of faith in Badass Bayless. Hedo is certainly an interesting player with a lot of skills. And a healthy Blake would be a good fit for them.
Agreed. I read it as Sergio or Blake, but you are right he does suggest both. Either way it is just his opinion. But there is some sense in his theory. (Other than Frye is a good rebounder)
A lineup of Bayless/Roy/Turkoglu/Aldridge/Oden would be badass i guess.... IDK if i'd want to trade Blake right now... If we could leave AJ and Blake out of the trade i'd do it I guess... but when Webster comes back we just have an insane logjam... I'm debating whether I just want to start Bayless/Roy/Batum/Aldridge/Oden as I think they are the future and let them grow together. I'm torn... But I don't think its agreat idea to give Bayless the reigns yet... even though he is producing in 22mpg right now... 11, 3 and 2. Not bad for a rookie.
Orlando would hang up with that trade offer. Hedo is borderline All Star. They aren't trading him for two backup quality PGs.
that's an offer they'd have to listen to in their current position. hedo will probably want more than they are willing to pay next year. his PER this year is the same as outlaw's and less than blake's. blake may not be a star but he's obviously experienced and comfortable in a starting roll, and he's great from 3P which is presumably the main thing they're looking to replace from nelson.

That's a lot of faith to put in Bayless right now, and I doubt we'd trade two of our three PGs. The other options seem to make more sense for Orlando, plucking PGs off mediocre and crappy teams while giving up guys like Bogans and Cook rather than Turkoglu.
If we traded both Sergio and Blake, I would guess there is a 2nd deal that would follow. Maybe RLEC and Travis for Hinrich. Lineup Hinrich/Bayless Roy/Rudy Hedo/Martel/Batum LMA/Ike (most likely we get someone else in another trade or included in one of these trades) Oden/Pryz A win now lineup
If Orlando would make that deal I'd be suprised. Wouldn't they just move Turkoglu for a better point guard option? From the Blazers point of view great trade. If you can move Blake who might not be resigned this summer, with deadweight Frye, and Sergio for a small forward starter who is still of the age that he can be a viable option on teams that will make a championship run in the near future, go for it. What this leaves is the ability to get a point guard with Lafrentz's contract, probably given us better over all talent then we would get in a single deal for a PG and SF. I don't see a downside to thining the roster and adding all-star type talent in the process, while only losing Sergio who might have been with the team long term. You don't lose Outlaw, don't lose Fernandez, don't lose any other rotation player, I say this is a great deal if it's a possibility.
Frye would make a lot of sense in Orlando. Neither Hedo or Lewis has PF size and CF's stroke would keep the D from collapsing on Dwight. With Nelson going down for the year they need to make some sort of move if they want to make any noise in the playoffs and Hedo may not be in their long term plans because of his age and fit with the club. I think Blake would be a solid fit for them as well. One of the more realistic hypotheticals floated this season IMO STOMP
